This game is definitly my most hyped game of 2011. By far.

Even more than Super Mario 3D Land?

Not atm, because SM3DL is closer to release than MK7, but I believe when all is said and done, MK7 will have had more hype than SM3DL.

I know it's going to be a great game (MK7) but I think that they both are going to be equally great games in my opinion. However, on the grande scheme of things the fact that Mario Kart 7 has online unlike Super Mario 3D Land is the very reason why it will sell ubbers more than the latter.

Might be alittle too early. Too start ptoposing this but since most of nlife is getting this we could start some Nlife reacing clubs or a league. Like 8 players to a leauge and we race every fiday (or other stuff) and a season would be a month. Then all the season winners would. Go on to do a all star race.

I do recall machu heading up something like this for mkart wii.

WAT!

Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

Why do there have to be four tracks per game? Did they say that will be the case? The recent pattern is four new cups, four retro cups, four tracks per cup. I don't know off hand that there is a pattern of choosing retro tracks evenly from previous games, or is there?

  • Shell Cup:
o Peach Beach (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)
o DS Yoshi Falls (Mario Kart DS)
o Ghost Valley 2 (Mario Kart SNES)
o Mario Raceway (Mario Kart 64)
  • Banana Cup:
o Sherbet Land (Mario Kart 64)
o Shy Guy Beach (Mario Kart Super Circuit/ Mario Kart Advance)
o Delfino Square (Mario Kart DS)
o Waluigi Stadium (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)
  • Leaf Cup:
o Desert Hills (Mario Kart DS)
o Bowser Castle 3 (Mario Kart Super Circuit/Mario Kart Advance)
    o DK's Jungle Parkway (Mario Kart 64)
o Mario Circuit (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)
  • Lightning Cup:
o Mario Circuit 3 (Mario Kart SNES)
o Peach Gardens (Mario Kart DS)
o GCN DK Mountain (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)
    o Bowser's Castle (Nintendo 64)

So that's 4 Double Dash!!, 4 DS, 4 64, 2 Super Circuit, 2 SNES.

I just saw the Preview Video on the 3DS shop and all I have to say WOW! The music let me just say: Is phenomenal. Very charming. The graphics are definitely Double Dash worthy, possibly even better. Nothing about the characters wowed me yet.

As for the tracks... damn. The Hulu island track looks good but probably going to be my least favorite of them all. I think I saw a Bowser stadium track (the second track shown in the video), but I might be crazy. But what made me go WOAH was when Mario just fell into the water on purpose to switch over to the submarine peripheral. I'm still not used to that. I'm going to go back to a previous Mario Kart game and forget its exclusive to 7, and get very... frustrated. Another note I'd like to point out is FIRE POWER.

Oh and it's nice that tricks are returning.

Ahem It's WUHU Island.

There is already a track list, Panda? Where did you get that, or is that NL INSIDE INFO? Pretty pumped about that list, though I thought Luigi's Mansion (DS) was in. Oh well.

Super-secret Mario Kart Wii info! sshhhhhhhhh

I realize that it wasn't very clear, but then again I am technically a panda using the internet. That in itself is pretty ****ing incredible.

Oh, duh. I didn't play MKW much, so I didn't recognize the list. I only remembered Yoshi Falls, so I was super excited and surprised to see it back in retro league twice in a row. Twas too good to be true.

And on behalf of my species, allow me to welcome you and yours to the internet. We even have a thread for bears of all kinds. Maybe you will find some friends there?

You kidding me? Yoshi falls was the most boring retro track. You just drive in an oval. That's it. It would be much cooler if that Yoshi canyon place from Mario Kart 64 was in one of the retros.

It is nostalgic for me because I never came closer to the world record on a MK course than for the original Yoshi Falls. Wish I still had my original cart to look up what it was. It is an exciting track to time trial because the ideal path will have you constantly power sliding half over the edge and sliding through waterfalls that nearly push you over the edge. The shortest path in a circular track is the inside, and for this course it's the most dangerous. Also, because it's circular, you can powerslide through the entire course, if I remember correctly, which makes it especially frantic.

I like it for racing, too, but items make the best path too risky if playing against someone of equal skill level.

I am not really a fan of Yoshi's canyon, or most MK64 tracks. That one in particular is excessive though, even for MK. The branching paths makes it so that if you are racing you aren't even hardly interacting with the other racers, and the multiple paths are insignificant in time trial since you only need to take one and ignore the rest. Of course, I haven't played it in a long time, so that opinion might change if it returns and I have someone to compete against on it, but for now I don't know anyone locally who would bother playing MK64. SMK is our VC MK of choice.

Mario Kart 64 indeed had the worst level design of the series, although a few of them are still fun to revisit.

I will always have a soft spot for Sherbet whatever just for the giant penguins. Pretty good track even without them, but they are too adorable to discount. I also loved that you could visit the castle in Peach's course, even though it was completely out of the way to do so. I will have to replay the game before 7 comes out in order to reconsider my individual impressions, but that was basically my opinion: a few keepers, overall disappointing outside of battle mode.

MKDS takes the cake for course design, in my book. I also love Super Circuit's tracks. MK on handhelds just has a great track record, which is a big part of why I'm so sold on 7.

Wario Stadium will always be my favorite 64 track....(and not just because of the whole Lightning Bolt thing either, lol)
EDIT: Oh right, and Bowser's Castle...loved that one too.

I still feel that MK64 had the best battle stages. Maybe it's a case of having played that the most for that mode but everything felt downhill after it in design. I really tried to get into Double Dash's battle mode but in hindsight I think it has the worst, and Wii's are aight but you stupidly can't play free-for-all.

Lightning bolt thing? I'm intrigued. I don't remember anything about lightning bolts on that track.

I didn't like it at all, myself. It was too long, and there was a huge shortcut at the starting line where you could basically skip the whole race if you knew how to do it, which kind of defeated the purpose except to show off.

Back then....I ALWAYS used the Lightning Bolt before everyone else went through the big jump. xD

I found the Bob-omb battles to be revolutionary. As for Double Dash's tracks, I found them to be the best in the series by a margin. I don't know who monitored the progress when developing these stages, but they did an excellent job. Every stage in that game is marvelous. A la DK Mountain anyone?

Ohhh, hahaha, yes, I loved to do that, too...

...not that I was ever in a place where I could get the lightning bolt.
