Wha? Of course I like the retro tracks! I'm not just playing for some DK tar- oh you meant the developer studio. I can see why you say that. Hopefully they get to make their own original IP or f-zero soon. Nintendo has to trust them enough at this point.
Well, i would love to pitch a new IP to Retro that I'm sure would be a match made in heaven for them and Nintendo but it'll never happen. Damn, and I hope my ideas aren't used exactly the way I want 'em because I think mine is a bit original if I do say so myself.. And my character designs fits well with the cast of Nintendo's mascots. Too bad it probably won't happen, less I really really pushed myself and beg 'em like no one has ever begged before...
Instead of making a race with no blue shells (which I believe you can't do), how about a race with only blue shells? (someone else already mentioned this, and I think you can't do that either, but whatever) 1st place player: * gets hit by blue shell * That's the tenth blue shell in this race! The thing about setting items to only pokeballs is that battles can become one-sided, as once a player releases a pokemon, he or she can most likely get the rest while the player is occupied with dealing with that one pokemon, and pretty soon the player has like 7 pokemon all against the player.
real players don't use items in SmashBros. but this isn't Smash Bros. it MarioKart, so items I'm ok with

The game has 17 characters to choose from. That's plenty. Everyone who keeps complaining should just get over it.
I'd have to agree to some extent. Mario Kart 7 is ranking 3rd in terms of the amount playable characters in all released Mario Kart games. Which is not bad at all. Look here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart#Playable_Drivers I think the real reason people are a little upset are the characters that have been replaced by some really weird "new" characters. I guess Nintendo want some new characters to freshen things up a bit, but I think they made some really weird choices in that regard.
I figure if you get attatched to the 8 characters that were in Mario Kart 64, you won't ever be disappointed with a roster. Also remember that until Double dash, you couldn't unlock new characters. Even then, it was really just sort of a way to track how far you had gotten in the game (to me at least)
It's looking to be a robust game, and as long as it's Mario Kart, I'll play it with whoevers in it.

You could say it's just the Metal Mario from Super Smash Brothers, it serves as a semi final boss of sorts before facing Master Hand in the first game.
I read that communities have the following options — speed (50, 100, 150, presumably mirror, too?), limit everyone to using one character, and one of the following item choices:
All Items, No Items, Bananas Only, Green Shells Only, Bob-Ombs Only, Coins Only.
Sorry, no Blue Shell Only races nor any All-But-Blue-Shell races.
