Topic: Mario kart 7 Discussion

I wonder if the new mechanics introduced in this game (gliding, underwater) will be brought back in future versions. I know they often have things in only one game like 2 people in a kart and bikes, but they did bring back tricks from MK Wii and coins from SMK and SC. I don't know for sure yet, but if the new mechanics, especially gliding, are as fun as they look, I want them to continue in future Mario Karts. What do you guys think? Should these features be unique to Mario Kart 7 or return in future iterations (assuming you like it when you play it)? If they didn't return they would make MK7 one of the most unique MKs, that's for sure.

I would definitely like the new mechanics, including kart customization, to return in Mario Kart Wii U; in fact, I think they should become a permanent addition to the Mario Kart series.
I am also super excited for this game; it basically took everything that was good about MKDS and MKW, combined them, and made it bigger and better. On top of that, it has little to no flaws and it has quite a few new and interesting mechanics.

Neither gliding nor underwater seems hugely game changing. Until I've played it, I can only say I don't really care if they're permanent. If I had to guess, I'd say they won't.

As far as how "game changing" they are, underwater not so much. But gliding, I can definitely see the possibilities for new strategies.

Target ALWAYS has those preorder deals. When preordering Pokemon White, I went with Target because they had the better deal. $5 gift card and a promo art set that came with the game for free. If I were to preorder anything, I'd go with Target. Them $5 gift cards can really help, you know.

Yeah, but when you wait till the week games come out, you can get $10 dollar gift cards, like Best Buy and Toys R Us are doing for Skyward Sword. The place I always get the best deals at are Toys R Us. I got a $25 dollar gift card when I got Mario Galaxy. And that was the day it came out.

Not sure what to do. After I pick up my comics I have enough extra spending money for two games. I could pick up Mario Land and a On sale copy of Raymanat $40 each, Or I could pick one of them up and spend my extra 40 on pre-ordering Mario Kart instead of getting it a week later.

What should I do?

I've been told the fake item box is removed. Pretty dumb IMO.

EDIT: Type in Nintendo's Reggie loses in Mario Kart 7. I love the girl's commentary, "What's wrong, Reggie?". And she is in 1st place and playing in first person mode (Which I think is gyro controlled only).

Fake item box was neat. I can live without it though. Banana peels are better since they can shield you as you drag them.

I never really cared for the fake item box...it was really just a weaker version of the banana that you couldn't even block shells with, so it doesn't really matter to me if it's in or not.

I'm glad the thundercloud is out... well, it was kinda fun...

I'm actually kind of pleased about the fake item box being removed.
It's always annoying when you're specifically looking for an item to shield you from a red shell and you get given that instead.
I'm happy with my bananas and green shells.

I think it'll be weird to see the player count drop back to 8 racers but at least there won't be so much item rape anymore. I'm very excited for this game and will pre order it by the end of the week. It seems odd to remove the Fake Item Box but I haven't liked it much anymore because it can't block items. My favourite time I had with them was on the Big Donut N64 battle stage because the boxes were randomly spread apart you couldn't tell what was real and what was fake. Big Donut won't be the same now without those Fake Item Boxes...

This game looks better and better.

Sucks i have to pick it up 4 days after launch. Still mario land/borderlans/ and darksiders should hold me off.
