This game is amazing. Coming from an HM veteran, it's the best handheld HM I've ever played and nearly the best one overall. I think this game was dismissed by many because of the glitches, which is somewhat understandable, but those who worked around them found a very special game.
I totally agree with you, this has a something that makes it pretty special.
I actually haven't experienced any of the glitches even in the petting minigame.
(I will scream in rage if I decided to boot up ToTT right now, and it suddenly crashes my system XD)
Are you playing the download version? That has apparently been patched. I have the card, but I just avoid using the horse cart in the mountains and I only play the petting mini-game if I accidentally activate it. I've never crashed in 400-plus hours. The lag doesn't bother me.

Have you played ANB? Where would you rank it? I've watched a lot of game-play videos and it doesn't really grab me. I'm sure I'll get to it someday, but it's behind other HM games on my to-play list at the moment.

It's definitely the most beginner friendly one. That's te one I started on
It sometimes feels minimalistic in some aspect (hence why it's so beginner friendly). It's not bad, but a veteran like you probably won't enjoy it as much.
Also, personally, I think the bachelorette a are a little disappointing in ANB. The bachelors though... Damn it Allen, you're confusing me... >_<
ANB is good, it introduces lots of cool new features but it has what most 3DS harvest moon suffer....
It's dreadfully slow and it makes me sleepy, petting your pet, picking up things, using your tools, everythinng is slow because there are full 3D models being animated. Taking full care of my 4 chickens, 2 pets and 6 livestock takes me like 3 or 4 in-game hours.
Also, there are cutscenes everytime your pets move your livestock out and in of their barns and the plaza shops open and close, they're slow and can't be skipped and they happen twice a day.
Another thing is that there's too much empty space in town, at first I was happy with my little town, I could fit all the buildings and decorations I wanted.... But they expanded it! Now it's so big, if I placed houses on the expanded part of the town, it would take me forever to visit them... So I don't use it at all.
The farm is of an ok size, but there are 2 loading screens between the parts of the farm, so again, I only really use the part I started with.
There's also the fact that money is so easy to obtain with just milk and eggs and wild items that I usually just put all my crops in the fridge and forget about them. It makes gowing them pointless outside of the contests and star rising.
Other thing that bothers me is the fact that I feel the need to visit every nook and cranny of the map, because the game makes you hoard everything you find so you can build things and that ends up boring me.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great game and I still love it, but TToTT is more my style.
And it was billed as a return to the franchise's roots. I'd like to see them use Magical Melody as the blueprint. To me, that had the perfect blend of all the HM elements.
@Morphtorok You know what else sucks about Magical Melody? The fact that there's an ending. It's not even at a logical place; the moment you marry certain people, the game just stops.
@Burning_Spear While I can't say if this returns to the "roots", I can say it's very beginner friendly and a great place to start for newbies like me. :3
Oh, but Magical Melody ends only if you marry your rival... Who is completely unlikeable and can be either male of female so pregnancy could be kinda odd in that case.
But ending the game that way also triggers epilogues for the other couples, so it's kinda cool.
So, after six months I started playing this again and finally completed the tunnel and brought both villages together again.
Something I wasn't expecting at all is that both towns now have new music!
The theme of Konohana is calmer and adds flutes that make it sound soothing and Bluebell is almost completely different! It got all tropical with ukulele and stuff. Love it.
I don't know why, but I find this to be completely cool.
I haven't played this game in the while; Harvest Moon: ToTT was just one of the weaker entries in my opinion. I've been playing HM:ANB whenever I go for a session of HM; besides, the Rune Factory series seems to have stolen all of my attention! :3
