Well, since this game was recently re-released through the eShop and it never had a real thread dedicated to it (the only one I could find was this one) I figured out I could make a thread for it myself.

I bought the eShop version even though I knew the game had several known issues (I really wanted to play it but the problem-free DS version is impossible to find in stores and is pretty expensive online) and I'm pretty happy with it, I haven't found any problems yet (I've played 1 and a half seasons already) and the game itself is pretty good (even if it's just an amost-direct-port of a DS game).

It's a lot like the other 3DS game, but in 2D and with some very nice features exclusive to it.

I'll keep playing and inform you guys if I find any lag or if it freezes on me. So far, it has been all good. I have even played the infamous petting minigame several times without it affecting anything.

Anyone else has this game? then discuss!

I have the DS version which is suppose to be like 95 percent the same. I like the errand system which was in Rune Factory 3. I tried it first on the animal raising town and couldn't get into it. I restarted and enjoyed being in the farming town. Learn how to use ditches to water plants.

Actually, the DS version is supposed to be the best version since the 3DS version usually suffers from severe bugs (though I haven't encountered any in the digital version, thankfully).
The DS version is pretty expensive now too.

The only content you're missing is the petting minigame (and the slightly upgraded graphics)... Though the petting minigame is a pretty nice way to make your animals like you fast.

And yeah, Konohana (the asian town) is very nice, much better than the other one. The music alone makes it more enjoyable.

I have the DS version of the game and choose Konohana Town because i like crops more then raising more Animals. I got the DS version for 29 euro's. Really fun game that i can play for many hours without getting boring.

when i played this game i had farms in both villages...it gets really difficult to get everything done on the farms, schmooze the people, harvest items off the mountain, fish, and everthing else. it gets a little easier when you get the tunnel to connect the villages, but then you miss out on the items on the mountain road.

i love HM games but this one got to the point where it was just too much work to keep everything going. i enjoy the early seasons where you are trying to get the villages together more than the play after achieving that.

Oh wow, you actually used both farms at the same time? (by that, I guess you mean you lived in bluebell and planted in konohana)

That sounds like too much work. I'm happy with only one.

I plan to live in Konohana from spring to fall and move to bluebell during winter (and leave the konohana farm filled with wheat or another plant that doesn't need to be watered).

Though yeah, harvest moon tends to be funner in the early years... Mostly because by the time you complete the tunnel and unlock the mine you have already done everything you can.

Well, I haven't found any lag yet, from what I have heard, it usually comes when you have too many animals and plants so I can't test that yet.

Even then, the game is pretty fun, if you liked ANB I bet you'll like this one too!

Just remember to stay away from the retail version though, the digital version is more reliable... The DS version 100% problem free as far as I know, but it's difficult to get by. Besides, we wouldn't be able to visit each others WiFi field if you got the DS version:P

I got a small sample run today, and... Meh. Probably gonna get it for cheap on Amazon.

At first I thought it was pretty meh too but it got me addicted soon after that.

Just a note, you won't find the DS version cheap on amazon and stay away from the retail 3DS version.

The eShop version is as good as the DS one (and it looks a lot better), but the retail version is a no-no.

Let's just say constant lag and daily full-console crashes are not something most gamers like.

It's funny how the 3DS version goes for 20 dollars in amazon and the DS one is currently being sold for 50. It pretty much became a collectors item.

I don't remember having the bugs people spoke about when I had the game. I never encounted any if the going from one village or the other bug. I didn't get far enough to see about the animal related bug.

So... Why's the digital version better protected?

Well, I never had the retail version so I don't really know, but from what I have recollected from various sites:

-Most (not all) American copies of the 3DS version suffer from constant lag and crashes.
-Going from one town to the other usually crashed the game.
-Using the petting minigame exclusive to the 3DS version usually crashed the game after several uses.
-Having too many plants and/or animals usually lagged the game even when you were not in the farm (sometimes taking several in-game weeks to appear).
-The European version is mostly fixed, but petting a certain animal crashed the game.

I have read from several people who played both retail and digital versions that this one runs fine and hasn't crashed on them so far, so my guess is that either Natsume fixed the issues or the ones generating them were the cartridges.

Haven't seen someone mention RF3 on this site before. Really loved that game.

I'm 400 hours into this game and still playing incessantly. I've played a bunch of HMs, and while this isn't quite my favorite, it's very, very close. I think a lot of people couldn't look past the glitches, which is understandable. Those who did found a very special game.

Oh nice!

I love Sunshine Islands, I think it's the best of the DS games (I can't count this one as a DS game can I?).

I really like that the islands are smaller in that game than in the previous one (Island of Happiness had one single huge island completely devoid of life or interesting places and like 10000000 faceless characters that would move away if you ignored them), not to mention that it lets you move around using the +pad instead of being touch-only.

I played it a lot and still play it from time to time, it's probably one of my favorite DS games.

I really enjoyed the game, as i have the series for a long time now. I honestly however, for the 1st time, got bored of the game after my 2nd year and traded it in. it got to a point where i was just waking up to do tasks and milk my cows. Still, a very good and refreshing game
