Topic: Etrien Odyssey?

Considering full retail (but the download versions) games on switch are rarely heavily discounted, and the 3ds is basically dead so the eshop won't be open for long, Ive been thinking of getting a 3ds game. Etrien Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl is currently under £5 and I was wondering what you guys think of it? I dont usually play turn based rpgs but have enjoyed and finished a few; pokemon, chrono trigger, shadows of adam. Is EOU:MG a good game, is it accessible?

Thanks guys.

Yeah, go for it. I'd recommend playing it on standard difficulty, as Expert might be too brutal for a first-timer, and Picnic difficulty is... well, it's overly easy.

Further recommendations:

  • Play story mode first. These 3DS remakes of the classic Etrian Odyssey titles have story modes that add cutscenes, pre-selected characters, etc. It'll help you get used to the gameplay without feeling too overwhelmed.
  • The unique mechanic of this series is the element of cartography. Basically, the game will ask you to construct a map of each floor of the dungeon you visit on the touch screen. Be sure to take your time and pay special attention when you're creating your map, as you'll need it to be accurate to survive in the labyrinth.
  • Always check every wall tile you pass, as shortcuts and hidden routes are frequently hidden in the walls throughout the labyrinth.
  • Don't rush through the labyrinth. Sometimes you won't be able to make much progress on a floor of the dungeon until you level up a bit, and that's OK, just try to map out something new on each run.
  • Always, always, always, always, always have a spare Ariadne Thread on you. Never go into the dungeon with just one after unlocking it.

Before this is closed, I wanted to point out that questions like this should be directed to the 3DS recommendations thread in the future.
