Well, it's finally happened. Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D, a Japan-exclusive 3DS remake of Dragon Warriors Monsters on the GameBoy Color (known in Japan as "Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry no Wonderland"), has finally been translated to English by Team Terry and released to the public.

You will need custom firmware if you wish to install and play the English version. Which this site is not ok with so I won't name any methods or ways to do it.

I just wanted to spread the word. This truly is a great game, and the team has done an excellent job here. 100% translated menus, dialog, NPC characters, even the 3D banner has been fixed to be in English.

Sounds like too much effort. I'll stick with VII, VIII and Builders

We...typically frown upon methods here if they are getting a game for free.

Please don't name the things required to mod your 3ds or play pirated software in it.

You can talk about the game if you want to, but instructing others on how to get it, the things they can use to mod their system, or leading them towards them in any way will end up with this thread locked.

Aw, when I read the title I thought SquareEnix somehow had released it in English without me knowing.
I'm not gonna mod my consoles, but would love to have the game in English.

Perhaps you could direct me to the rules so I can take a good look over, because no one has ever taken issue over such things before. I was under the impression talking about these things is absolutely fine, and in fact even articles are written about them. I was told links are forbidden to roms, but there is absolutely nothing illegal about modifying a handheld. So if you can point me to a rule that says we are forbidden to even mention something that's not even illegal then I will be sure to follow it in the future.

Modding is fine as long as the game was legitimately acquired

Well, nobody has to get the game for free- that's a personal choice that every person has to make. A person can still buy the game to support it and run the patch over it. Just like I buy all my games (provided they sell them in my region!) But I wasn't meaning to talk about that, I was more talking about playing a game that has a translation. And other games that have translations.

edit
But I think you're right. What I said there might've crossed the line, so I'll just delete it. I personally feel playing games publishers refuse to sell us in our own region is no harm no foul, but I shouldn't make the assumption everyone feels that way. Usually I take a stance of, "sell me the game and I'll be first in line to buy it, as I do ALL my games, but I'm not gonna import an out of region game in a foreign language I can't understand". But maybe I'll reconsider. Maybe I'll just start donating $20 to the developer and $20 to the translator. Seems fair.

Anyways, enough of that. I just wanted to talk about the game. If anyone else is actually playing it here.

It is permitted to constructively discuss the use of flash carts, emulators and homebrew software when in the context of previous generation(s) hardware. We ask that you do not link to any resources for illegal copyrighted content such as where to download ROMs and we reserve the right to lock, edit or delete any threads or comments we feel stray too far into an illegal or legal grey area.

Ah, I was genuinely not aware of that bolded text. Had I been I never would have mentioned it. My apologies, I didn't know.

So I played about 2 hours of DQM Terry's Wonderland last night, and it really is like Pokémon but better. Can name every scouted monster, you have 4 slots for monsters (some larger ones actually take up 2 or even 3 slots in some cases), can keep 4 in reserve and can send up to 500 to keep in the farm. You can level up your monsters, give them weapons, breed them into stronger monsters and even allocate skill points to them and learn skills yourself.

It's great playing a DQM game in 3D on 3DS. The DQM Joker games on DS are great, but there's something about the 3DS that just takes the graphics up a notch to the point it no longer looks retro. And the 3D just adds gobs of charm to any game.

Pretty confident we'll never see an official localization for any of the DQM games on 3DS, but I'm still very excited we got this to fill in between VII and VIII, both of which are actually building up to DQXI which looks absolutely amazing on 3DS. Love the 3D/2D style and how you can switch between them.
