I'm not sure when it got there, but the game has a demo now.

After playing with it a bit, I think it looks pretty beat, though the controls must be the most awkward ever.

Has anyone else tried it?

What is it? A Minecraft clone?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yep...that's pretty strange controls...feels like it's for left handed people and the looking is sensitive...now if only you could edit the controls unless that's only in the full version.

If that's in the full version, I might consider buying it.

I feel that aiming with the touch screen and moving with the circle pad would work better here. Just change the action button to L and jump by double-tapping the screen.

Hi guys, I'm the lead developer for Cube Creator 3D at Big John Games.

The controls in the full release of Cube Creator 3D will have several options, so something should work well for everyone. We will be supporting the Circle Pad Pro, with the right Circle Pad used as an alternative to the ABXY buttons. It is also possible to swap the left and right inputs, so if you prefer moving with the left Circle Pad and aiming with ABXY or the right Circle Pad, this is also possible.

You will also be able to invert the Y-axis for the aiming controls, swap the L and R button functions, and for those of you that have asked about options when shoulder buttons are broken, left and right on the Control Pad can be used as substitutes for the L and R buttons.

We won't be supporting the Touch Screen for moving or aiming, as it's used extensively for inventory and crafting, but I think with the options we do provide, everyone should find a method they like.

If you want to be updated on Cube Creator 3D developments you can follow @BigJohnGames on twitter.

Too bad about the touch screen.

It really is the one good way to control FP games on these systems.

If you accept ideas for future updates, just adding a button on the touch screen to switch between "touch controls" and inventory would be a nice solution, I think.

Anyway, what other kinds of objects and blocks are in the game? I'm sure the demo is just limited. Are there like doors, and stuff?

I thought the demo was really good considering the platform, and my son really enjoyed it. I'm not a big Minecraft fan (he is), but it would be fun to play on the same map as my son, so that will likely make it worth purchasing for me.

I checked their Twitter and,

-Multiplayer is not in the game, but they plan to add it if the game sells well enough.

-They plan to continue supporting the game with updates after its release.

Also, the trailer shows that there are in fact doors in the game. But so far it's the only non-cube decorative object I could notice.

Regarding other types of blocks in the full game that aren't in the demo, besides doors there are also light blocks. In the demo we don't use a day-night cycle or reduce lighting when you go underground, but the Survival mode of the full game has a much more complete lighting system, and crafting light blocks will be essential for navigating caves and playing through night time.

Most of the other items in the game are tools and equipment that you craft from gathered materials.

I did notice night in the trailer, and it did seem very dark/ foggy. Will there be lighting options?

Not many players enjoy having to force their eyes to view in video games, some even get physically ill because of it.

Light and darkness is an important part of the game, but it will mostly be avoidable if that's the way you want to play.

You will be able to sleep through the night as long as you can find a safe place. Caves are dark, but light blocks can be crafted and placed along the cave to light them up.

Also, the nighttime darkness has been brightened slightly since the last trailer to make exploring outdoors at nighttime a bit easier on the eyes.

That's great to hear!

Something I noticed about the demo that I really liked is that the render distance greatly increases if you stand still for a few seconds (enough to render the whole demo map at once). It'll be useful for displaying big creations.

Btw, how big will be the maps? Is the demo map the final size?

The demo map is the final size, 192x192x96 cubes. In Survival mode you will be able to explore a larger area by traveling between multiple worlds in a single campaign.

Looks like Big John Games gave some new information about this project in an interview: link.

It would be really nifty if they added that texture editor the guy mentioned.

Also, it seems there's only 29 different kinds of cubes in all, I wonder if there's enough color variety, like the wool blocks in minecraft.

The game will come out next week for 4.99 dollars.

Though it seems that price is only an introduction discount.
