Only tried it for a short time so far, so I have to get used to the Resident evil control scheme. But it feels nice in your hands. It makes the 3DS heavier though. It looks ugly, obviously. And of course it is a afterthought. But if this makes Resident evil and some upcoming games more playable, then it isn't so bad. As for the screw: It's not a problem since it is big enough to remove with a coin. And people say the battery works for ages. Personally, I found it very clever how the circle pad pro connects. Namely via the infrared strip on the 3DS!
i don't know what to think so far. i had started using scheme C in revelaitons (the face-button camera one) and even though it was awkward as hell i really came to like it. the pro doesn't offer as much of an improvement over digital buttons as i expected, it's not very sensitive and you practically have to push all the way in any direction to move your gun, so it's not that much more "analog" than buttons are and it's a lot slower than a quick digital press. i found my accuracy and performance went way down in raid mode using it compared to scheme C because it was taking longer to aim!
my right thumb also seems to have a problem orienting itself so that "straight right" to me is what the pad considers straight right. i find myself sliding diagonal upwards too much when i'm trying to look just right because the positioning of the thing leaves my hand at an angle. it also fails to recognize about 60% of the time i'm booting up. without repositioning the pro at all i'll try it again and suddenly it works fine from then on.
anyway. it works decently and i'm getting better with it the more i use it, but if you're good at using the face buttons to aim and are comfortable playing like that i don't think it's worth $20. it does add a lot of weight and size (just holding it alone in your hands, it has some heft to it) and it makes the system feel pretty clumsy, even with the ergonomic grips. not to mention the design is just not up to nintendo's standards... no access to vital parts of the system while using it? no alternate place to stow the stylus? they could have drilled a hole in there somewhere.
I love my Circle Pad Pro. It's not that ugly in person, and goes well w/ my blue 3DS. I've got big hands, so the only button I have trouble reaching is Start. Y's okay. It takes about 5 minutes of getting used to, and the 2nd circle pad is slightly stiffer than the one in the system. No issues when I got used to it, minus Start, but how often do you pause? It feels great, and the size of the circle pads (both are the same size) are much better than those of the Vita. The Vita felt a little awkward w/ its small analog sticks. They aren't pressure sensitive, just like the 3DS, but they are almost the size of the 3DS' A button w/ a small rubber outline around that to make it grip better. The rear touch pad was a little awkward too, so I'm thankful for the ZL/ZR buttons. It's bundled w/ a AAA battery, which lasts 480 hours of gameplay (not general time). A dime should do the trick for opening the screw. It's also bundled a wrist strap, similar to the Wii's. Without it, you can shake the 3DS in it all you want, even upside-down, and it won't budge the slightest bit. I'm not stupid enough to drop it though, so I'd advise you use the strap. I do. It works great w/ Resident Evil: Revelations, and the demo's compatible too, if you know a friend w/ a CPP, but no Resident Evil. At $20, how could you go wrong? No game requires you to use it (so far), and the 3DS' gyroscope is fine, but this is better. On the bus, I used Starfox 64 3D's motion controls, and when the bus turned, I plowed into a fleet on enemies, and took their fire head-on. I was almost dead, so I'd quit. Keep that in mind, and first/third-person shooter games won't be the only game to use it, I'm sure. Zelda could benefit from it, like on Epona, or w/ a manual camera in a boss battle. Of course, in those games it won't be as integral, but keep that in mind. If you've played Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you know how much of a life-saver the Classic Controller Pro was. That applies too. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10.

Dependably dumb GameStop doesn't have any CPPs in stock, apparently--anywhere, and I while I don't believe that I couldn't be bothered to call them about it, so I just paid $27 for one from Nintendo's online store instead. This thing better work like a dream with Metal Gear and Kid Icarus.

Those things were flying off the shelves like wildfire...yet everyone (almost) said they hated them and wouldn't buy one. If you were trying to stock accordingly, how would that look?

I'd bet it'd be in 2013, an XL version, and can up-convert graphics on it's large screen. I can't see how a second circle pad could fit under the face buttons
, and still leave enough thickness for a longer battery, due to it having to be gorged out, and still leave a circle mark on the top. And how would 2 sound? Where would the power button move?
tried it, it's awesome... really, this was the only advantage the vita had lol, and Nintendo (or rather Capcom) really nailed that corner. The 3DS is now the compelte nirvana for anyone interested in this too.
You don't. it clearly wasn't designed with that in mind. You have to remove it to change cards, the system isn't 100% secure in it (rectified with the inclusion of the wrist strap) and very few games support it. BTW, I swear by mine, it does what it's for well enough. I leave it at home unless I'm taking it on a trip, in which case I stick it in my backpack when not in use.
How the hell do you put it in your pocket? You stuff it in. It stays in fine as long as you don't mind it poking out a little; most pockets that can fit your 3DS have enough leeway for the CPP as well.

Has anyone tried it out yet on Kid Icarus? I have one and it isn't too bad for lefties although I found it easier to set the R button to attack instead of the L button because it felt more comfortable.
