I prefer the 8-bit-ish reditions found in the Dsi title.
I heard somewhere you can play as Curly in the Wii version, can you do that in this one?
I dunno about Curly, but Prinny will be there after you beat the game.
I thought so too but I can't find anywhere that confirms Prinny being in, just a Prinny Cap.

Guys...this game is kind of a let-down, right? Cave Story is quite probably my favorite game, so I was going into this one really wanting to like it. And I do like it. It's still Cave Story. But boy, it sure doesn't look like Cave Story any more. The environments are...fine. I guess. A few look great, but most had me saying, "Alright..." instead of "WOWEE!" A full-blown 3D remake of one of the greatest games of all time should have me saying "Wowee!"
The real issue is the character modeling, which is pretty embarrassing. They look like stagnant plastic toys, but not as fun to look at. Mostly, they're just too muddled looking. The character sprites in the original and WiiWare versions were drawn with such life, such expression. Here, they're just pixely hunks of geometry with no discernible features. The back of the box describes the game as being "reminiscent of the original Cave Story" and I can't think of a better word for it. The characters in 3D are reminiscent of those of the original, like hazy wax look-alikes--pretty close to the real thing, but just different enough to produce a sort of uncanny valley effect in my brain.
I kinda dig the Classic Mode, but I'm avoiding it, because I want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. I feel like I should mention that I am having fun. After all, it's a fun game. And I like the idea of the game--I like the idea of seeing this amazing world Pixel created with more detail, more depth. But the result lacks the home-made, labor-of-love vibe of the original. Pixel created the original in his free time, with no deadlines or time restraints. Cave Story 3D feels unfinished. I really wish I loved it. But I don't.
Well I for one loved it but it's too short! I waited ages to get my copy and after all the anticipation I've almost completed it (I'm on the doctor) in just two days! The adventure was brand new for me, I had only played the original as far as Grasstown, (Bushlands in the 3D version) as I only found out about the game when the 3ds came out and played a little of the original to keep me going until this version came out, but I didn't want to spoil the story for myself. Anyway, I had no idea how long it was going to be, and played it for hours without realising I was close to completing after feeling like i'd just begun.....oh it was too good, I wish there were more areas, more things to do! Having said that, I hear there are alternate endings - Does that refer to the fact that you can choose to fly away with kazuma? Because if so then I got that ending, restarted from the save point and carried on already....so I guess there's nothing left for me to do? Except beat the doctor.
3DS friend code - 5241 - 2428 - 0543 - Need friends to play MK7, Kid Icarus and Heroes of Ruin. Fave game: Cave Story! x
@MofieWilson - There are more weapons to find requiring additional playthrougs making different decisions (I assume you said "yes" to the Machine Gun from Curly?) and then there is a whole sub-game/nasty evil difficult section to unlock too. You may be able to find them for yourself, but I needed a players' guide.

Hint: use the red line to avoid a friend. And until the end the last 3rd of the game is mostly backtracking and sidequests (or at least something similar to it).

Nice hint, but I wouldn't recommend he try to get the best ending at all without a walkthrough. I used one on Gamefaqs the first time, and have since bought one in a cheat code magazine and also have one in one of my Nintendo Power issues. I would've been utterly lost without something like that.
I played through again and got the best guns (Nemisis and Spur) The Booster V2.0 and (my favourite thing about this game) Saved Curly Brace, and her memory. I beat the doctor and the core and am about to go into the sacred ground, I have my life pot ready and full energy in the prefab building. Already played it through with the ending and got to fly off on the dragon with sue and kazuma. I've heard doing sacred ground brings you a different ending, and am looking forward to giving that a go! One question though, in order to play this level called the wind fortress i have heard so much about, do i have to have the wiiware version? Is there definitely no wind fortress in the 3d one? I've read about it , and you would have thought they would put it in. Just want to make sure I haven't missed anything before I go into sacred ground (Oh and yes i did get the timer) Update: Ok so yeah i've played around with it and looked at some stuff online I think i have everything, obviously no wind fortress in this version, Is there a wind fortress in any version or was it just an unused track? As I've read different things online about it - i think the only thing i missed is curlys underwear, still yet to actually beat ballos though and haven't seen that ending, this game is amazing! Ten out of ten even. This is the game that I always wished existed
