This is probably a strange and easy question thats been answered somewhere but here it goes:

I'm planning to buy a 3ds, and I was wondering if I bought the physical copy of a game or the "chip", and the game received an update, would I be eligible to get that update?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the update is usually a separate file stored in the console's SD card, the format of the software makes no difference.

@Meowpheel: Thank you. On the subject, should I consider getting a new SD card?

Probably, mostly if you plan to download many games.

The default 4gb card should be enough if you only plan to buy physical games.
