Wasn't it supposed to be Q1 2016? Or was it just a general 2016 window
Just 2016. It's probably coming later in the year, maybe Summer or Fall.
Anyway, we don't need Prime 4, but they should rework it to have more of a Metroid feel. Level design especially needs an overhaul, the fanbase isn't going to be happy with short, arena like areas where you do nothing but fight enemies, the levels need to have an exploration focus. Maybe make longer, linear levels that are chock full of secrets, with sections like the ones we saw at E3 only comprising a fraction of the level. That would please the fanbase a bit more without needing a main game, I think.
Wouldn't it be so great if they actually listened to the backlash and general reaction and immediately decided to change it to Metroid Prime 4 instead?
The last thing I want Nintendo to do is listen to all of the backlash the game has gotten, since I want to play Federation Force. Honestly too, the way the main numbered Prime games have been, I would take Federation Force over Metroid Prime 4 just for the multiplayer aspect. Prime 4 would probably win me over with Sylux footage though if Tanabe is actually serious about bringing that hunter back for a major role. But yeah, I've been wanting another multiplayer Metroid since Metroid Prime Hunters, and I don't think a Prime 4 would deliver that experience. Metroid Prime Federation Force on the other hand already looks promising for multiplayer. I'm just waiting to see more.

And I bet that even if they did that, you'll find the game "generic" in the end and the people who love the game have to put up with you claiming how "generic" Nintendo games are.
I've never played the Prime series so I don't know if Prime 4 would be my interest. What I would want Nintendo to do if they were to put Prime 4 is to do it to cater to those who haven't played the Prime series even in the slightest.
Funny how even Next Level games isn't interviewed about the development of the game either......must be the lack of trust that Nintendo has over them or something that they don't often reveal a lot as usual?

If I was entirely clueless on how game development works, sure.
There's no point something "working" if no-one buys the game.
Metroid Prime Federation Force will have buyers and I don't think it'll be the worst selling 3DS game either. The game should have Next Level Games' best effort put towards it so that the genuine, hooked Metroid fans have another Metroid game that they'll enjoy, no matter how small that group has become since Other M and this game's announcement.
All this hate and it hasn't even been released yet lol. Can't be worse then Other M right?
Well at first I was disappointed (only because it wasn't another Prime style) but after the initial reaction I'm now looking forward to it. I just hope all the negative reaction hasn't put a delay on this so much so that it gets a major overhaul.

It's a Metroid game made by guys who consistently make great games. If this happens, it's the fault of the marketing team.
Listening to fans too much can kill a game franchise, because fans hardly ever know what they really want. Any good developer knows that.
I bet most of the people who signed the petition will either end up buying the game or are people who didn't plan to get the next Metroid game, regardless of form or content.
I'm sure the game will do ok, if anything the petition is free publicity.

Honestly, at this point putting out a rehashy Metroid game would be an improvement over Other M and Federation Force. At least then we'd have a quality Metroid experience. Generic is more of a problem when a series has several entries that go nowhere, and Metroid has never really done that (in fact, I can't think of any Metroid game that's really a rehash, they all tend to be unique to some degree).

He doesn't need youtube to get caught up. That's what Prime 4 can and should do. If Super Metroid can reference both Metroid and Metroid II with its intro and Corruption can reference the events of Prime and Prime 2 in logs, then Prime 4 can certainly be done in a way to catch newcomers up to speed with what's going on. Who knows though, Metroid Prime Federation Force could handle that job itself before Prime 4 sees the light of day. It's coming from the Federation's perspective in that universe, so references to Prime, Echoes, Corruption and even Hunters could certainly be possible there.

He's not saying he wants to get caught up on the story, he's saying he doesn't know if he'd enjoy the game.
Sonar did say he hoped a Prime 4 would cater to newcomers of the sub-series, and that's more what I was commenting on with your suggestion of just going to Youtube.

That's great as far as lore and plot is concerned, but you're not going to know if you like the gameplay without a video or demo, and since the latter isn't coming anytime soon the best suggestion short of risking your money on a game you may not like is to watch a video and see if the gameplay looks interesting.
I think I may have said this before but after Triforce Heroes I doubt I will get Federation Force, if it's region locked online for a game that isn't hugely popular in the first place so I'll long waits in the lobby and on portable console where there's no wi-fi on my morning commute (which is where I seem to play my 3DS the most) it just wont work for me.
After the success of Splatoon it just seems strange for Ninty to focus on on-line multiplayer games for the 3DS.
