it's true that you can get most of your use out of it within 3 hours, but the point of a portable system is that you can play it away from home. the fact that you have such a limited amount of time kind of makes it a play at home system. yes, there are a lot of power outlets to be found but it's not like you can hook your 3DS up at school or any other public place i can think of for 3 1/2 hours on end. you have a short burst of emergency fun in the event that something boring comes up during the day and then you're out, whereas the other systems gave you the ability to freely play all day if you had to.

it also seems like battery life will impact things like the pedometer, which is supposed to measure how much you walked throughout the day. there are no figures for how long the system lasts in standby with those features on, but if you've been playing the battery may very well wear out before you even collect much information.

The point of a 3DS is 3D so why should the consumer have to shut the 3D off just to push and extra hour or two.

Ive never had a problem with a nintendo handheld when it comes to the battery and i really wouldnt be surprised when peoples battery start to wear out. Ive never noticed my dsi or other handhelds battery life decrease but when your battery life is 3-5 hours your going to notice a difference. And if you play your 3DS everyday your going to be charging it everyday which is going to shorten the lifespan of your battery.

I doubt accelerometers, flash memory, the occasional few kb over WiFi and a couple of LEDs are going to drain your batteries very quickly. It should be able to last days or even weeks running like that.

This 3hours is everything running, in the middle of a graphically intensive game with the backlight up to full and 3D turned on. You can apparently get 6hours by just turning the 3D off and putting the brightness to low... and you think battery life will be a problem when the screen, GPU and most of the CPU are completely off? I seriously doubt it.

Ofcourse he isn't going to say that the next 3DS lite = already in the works. They will lose massive sales by that.

a bigger battery can already be placed inside. 2700mah battery's of the same shape are already there, but it adds expenses that nintendo just isn't going to do for now. Its a easy upgrade for them later on.

I see them doing a bigger battery, OLED version with a refined processor that uses less power in two/three years. It won't be any smaller, what would be the point? It wouldn't be like Nintendo to release a revision that only had a new battery.

Having said that I wouldn't be surprised that either Nintendo or a third party started to sell higher capacity battery replacements. Infact they do it with the DSi. I avoid non-official Nintendo related products like the plague but you get the idea.

Here, this is a 1500mAh portable, rechargable wristband battery. With the 3DS being around 1300mAh, this could theoretically recharge your 3DS one full time, extending the life. You would have to find a seperate cord that would plug into the 3DS and the mini USB port on the wristband. But the DS lite and DSi had 3rd party cables that had a full sized usb end on it. Well, you can just get a tiny mini USB adapter to gender swap it, and wala! Twice the battery.

this is the best idea ever!!!!!!!!
