Well it seems like we are getting adventure island 2 for the nes tomorrow. Also let me give you a quick history lesson if you have played Adventure Island for the gameboy it is really that game. Also what are your thoughts?
I have GB version, NES version, Wiiware version, Turbografx version and SNES versions in Virtual Console. I need this one but i preffer it in Wii U not 3DS.
Adventure Island Game Boy = Adventure Island II NES (well, mostly. I think the NES might have had more levels but you only played a randomized set of levels each time. GB is not randomized.)
Adventure Island II Game Boy = Adventure Island III NES
(though in Japan, Hudson left the GB version numbers the same as FC)
If this means more Adventure Island games coming I can't complain. Hopefully we can actually get Adventure Island IV here as an import title eventually.

@unrandomsam There are two SNES Adventure Island games. They're both completely different from each other.
I personally don't see much of a different between Adventure Island I and Wonderboy I but most seem to prefer Wonderboy from what I've seen.

super adventure island 2 was sweet, the truest sequel we ever got to zelda 2 lol.
i was confused about the adventure island nes/gb versions too. i have adventure island 2 on nes, so i thought it would be cool the play the first one for gameboy. nope, turns out its the same frikken game.
Adventure Island 1 GB is based on Adventure Island 2 NES and Adventure Island 2 GB is based on Adventure Island 3 NES.

I never played Adventure Island but I was a massive fan of Wonder Boy after the first one, the first one was a pretty unimpressive platformer to be honest. Is Adventure Island 2 more like the later Wonder Boy games for is it very similar to the earlier ones?
On a side note, how has Wonder Boy not been rebooted? That series was awesome! I'm really tempted to download the collection on PS3 or Xbox.

Adventure Island 2 is like the first Wonder Boy, but with more sane difficulty (get from start to goal before you die of hunger if not something else). AI2 adds the ability to ride dinosaurs. Also, when you finish a level with power-ups, you can choose to store them for later (when you restart a level, you can choose to take out a stored power-up).
The only exploration AI games are 4 for the NES (Japanese-exclusive) and Super AI2 for SNES.
I think the NES first Adventure Island must have been much harder than either the Arcade or Master System Wonderboy games. (I never had a problem with the Master System version as a child at all there were games I had that were too difficult (Ultima IV) but Wonderboy wasn't one of them).

Never met an Adventure Island or Wonderboy game I didn't like. I have not played the Gamecube remake, the Wiiware game wasnt bad but looked outsourced.
