See? I told you its slow-paced nature would be considered a negative. Unless you really hate the genre (and why would you buy it if you are?) though, I doubt 'most people' aren't going to finish the tutorials.
I'm a tad miffy about some of the comments I'm hearing.
Well I guess you're right there about the slow paced nature.
I'm one of those people where long tutorials wouldn't put me off, I'd be more grateful that the game has taken the time to help me settle into the game.
Simulation titles aimed at casual players tend to bore me quickly because you reach the bread and butter of the game too quickly and the buzz just fizzles out, this game is quite the opposite and it sounds good.
Any game that normally has slow pace (simulations, hunting games, dungeon crawlers, etc) normally has 'slow pace' as a negative, but actual fans of the genre will consider that as a positive instead of a negative. I'm pretty much used to these 'negatives' now.
While I do like in-depth simulations, I don't mind playing some more 'casual' sims once in a while, if only to unwind. Sid Meier's Railroads! is pretty casual, but also pretty fun. It's cool watching the trains chug around with authentic sounds, and watching the cargo being loaded.
I unlocked the 3D camera view!! It's a shame miiverse doesn't let you post pics yet though. I'm slowly getting back in the black. My losses is getting smaller. Here's three screenies I've taken from Tutorial 2
I'm able to create new vehicles, upgrade my current ones and more now. I must have that steam locomotive!!!
Wow this game keeps getting better. I've just unlocked the ability to have the game keep running when I close the 3DS. This will come in handy!
I am so looking forward to that 3D camera. At the moment I'm plodding about with the whole freight moving business in the first tutorial. I'm loving how it keeps adding extra depth and responsibilities to the game as you go on at a steady enough pace for you to work it out yourself.
Sadly, the 3D Camera feature is unlocked late through tutorial 2, so you'll have to wait a long while before you get it. Here's a screenshot of my Steam train hauling lumber. I love steam locomotives. Sadly I didn't get to enjoy it very long, because I finished the tutorial not long after. I made it blue
One great thing about the 3D camera (aside from taking cool screenshots!) is that when you're in this mode, you can hear authentic (at least they sound authentic to anyway) sounds from the vehicles as they move around. It's awesome hearing the chug chug of the steam train
According to the Activity Log, 19:18, although I am not sure if it counted the time I closed the 3DS last night so I could finish tutorial 2 faster. I wasn't actually playing, but the game was still running.
Before I closed the 3DS though, I was playing tutorial 2 for 7 hours, and that was not from letting the game run when I was doing other things.
Update: Man, it took a while but I am finally in the black. Thought I'd never stop bleeding money. I still have to earn 1 million in assets though, and I'm at 400K. Argh, I have a lot of work to do.
Yay I finished the third tutorial in 28 hours and 43 minutes. Making an underground connection to Ramsey Village helped me a lot. With three scenarios completed, I've also unlocked Construction Mode which lets you design your own scenarios and beat them. I haven't fiddled around with it much yet.
Also, here's a list of 5 3DS games you should have played in April. Guess which game is on top of the list It's good when niche-y games get more exposure.
I'm currently working on a scenario now. I'll add some goals, but my intention is to make it sandbox though, so the time limit is set to 24 years (on easy) so you can pretty much play it forever, or until you get tired of the map. It's about space ferrets that are trying to thrive on planet Earth. I'm going to adding some conversations (hopefully a lot of them if I can think up stuff) to make it fun and exciting ;3 I hope some of you will try it out when I'm finished, whenever that's going to be
I'd pick A-Train for Game of the Year if The Witcher 3 wasn't coming out. I can safely say A-Train is my handheld GoTY though.
I also was hoping this thread would be a bit more active, but I guess it's too niche for people to bother.
Yeah, there's not a whole lot about it online anywhere! (Even Natsume isn't really promoting it, on their Tumblr. Which is weird...considering that they're promoting Lost Valley instead).
This game is definitely next on my to-buy list, but I want to get through Etrian Mystery Dungeon before I jump into it. I don't mind doubling up on smaller eShop/VC titles, but I can't stand having a backlog of retail-sized games.
I'm interested in this game because I like the railroad. I've never played a simulation style game though. Will there be a demo I wonder?
Do you like slow-paced games at all? If yes, then you may like the genre. If not, then you will probably hate the genre, although some people who are more action-oriented gamers have stated they liked the game, so there is also a chance you may like it. No demo, but the tutorial in-game is very comprehensive.
