Finally got my 3DS XL in my post and I wanted to share my impressions with you because it seems there is still much uncertainty about resolution and build quality. All of the following is my own opinion and should be rated as such.
When I opened the package I was pleasently suprised. The 3DS XL looks cheaply made on many promo pictures and even some reviewers said it appears to be cheap. My personal impression is the contrary. This thing is heavier than the original, lies perfectly in your hand, the surfaces are matte but silky smooth to the touch, all the buttons and the circle pad work awesome - theres absolutely nothing wrong with them, precise and tight manufacturing througout.
Now the biggest mystery: the resolution. Its the same but still its 90% bigger screen than 3DS. So what does it mean? Whatever it means, I don't notice much difference really, it looks brilliant in the menues and even DS titles look really good, the only thing you notice is that there are a bit more visible jaggies in games like Heroes of Ruin - which hadnt the "jaggie-free-est" graphics to begin with. I absolutely love it. High recommendations.
If you have further questions, Ill answer then as soon as Im online again!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
It's good to hear a good review of the 3DS resolution. I guess since there are so many improvements to the original, people are looking for a flaw. From what I keep hearing the increased size of the 3DS XL doesn't decrease the resolution. In allot of cases people are saying that it improves the 3D effect, and like you said, breathes new life into old titles. A few questions, how easy is the initial setup? Do you really notice an improvement in battery life? Are you playing with 3D effect cranked more? Any headaches viewing 3D for long periods? What color did you get? I got the cherry red preordered. C'mon 8-19 already!
I've got a 3DS XL and I've got to say it's miles ahead of the original 3DS and I quite liked the design of the original as well.
The main thing is I dont get hand cramp from it! When playing a session of Starfox it really buggered my hands trying to barrel roll constantly. Hitting the shoulder buttons are loads nicer now.
The screen is really good. The resolution doesn't cause many problems. There are loads of jaggies but I'd honestly take that for a bigger screen anyday.
Another thing to note; when it was announced I thought it was a stupid idea. Walked into GAME one day and tried their demo unit then I fell in love! I task any doubters to go in and try it!
sounds like it is a good improvement. But would you recommend it over the original by what it feels like and how much better quality. And even Looks both in Game and the system itself.
