Topic: 3DS XL Hinge Durability?

Hi, just purchased a 3DS XL, and was very careful with it as the hinge makes me feel anxious. I found out there's actually a THIRD click to the screen when pushed once again to 180º after i accidentally hit the screen when playing.

After this, I was so afraid that it would break in the coming days because I didn't know if that was natural or not. For those who own a 3DS XL and admit to be quite rough with it, can you tell me if the hinge on the 3DS XL holds up well, or does it break very easily?

Thanks

I heard it's better than the 3DS, I have my 3DS since 2011 and no hinge problems yet(sure I never even go far enough for the second click, just to be safe)

It holds up fine but it constanly scares the s**t out of be. It feels so floppy and going from the gamepad to the 3DS XL is a hard transition. Heck going from 3DS to 3DS XL was hard enough, but dat screen size, tho'. XD

Edit: Mine is fine, it hasn't broken or anything, but I got the Gamestop 2-year warranty just in case.

Thanks for the reply. However for the 3DS (non-XL) I heard there isn't a second click. haha.

I also never go to the third click, it was an accidental press which has gotten me so paranoid.

Haha. Sadly I can't relate to you, cause the last handheld I've had was the gameboy advanced...I know it's sad. I'm also really scared the 3DS XL will break on me, but the screen looks so nice and big, played with my friends 3ds afterward and couldn't stand how small it was.

Standard 3DS does have a second click (the one I use) and the 3DS XLs hinge is miles better than my old DS and DS Lite ever were so don't be to concerned and just treat it with care.

yeah the DS hinges used to break the little ring in a matter of months and the Lite would get all loose in no time(never saw it break but that thing gets so loose it's impossible to play while moving)

My DS Lite has a crack on the hinge so now I have to limit how much I use it to play my GBA games.

I only use my DS to transfer pokemon from the GBA to the DS games.

You don't need the top screen for that

So far, there's only two of my 3DS XL systems that has a cracked hinge. I'm wondering on how did they managed to break no matter what I do. Must be my awful luck...

I bought my 3ds xl yesterday, and when I put the hinge in its last position where it is at 180°, the hinge doesn't click??? I am really picky about small things like this, and I was just wondering does this happen to anyone else??? thanks maaaayns!!!!!!!!!!!!=D

All my DS systems have always been consistent with their hinges, and I've dropped them time to time.

My 3DS XL has a pretty reliable hinge. I've heard that it comes across as unstable, but the motion of the screen is actually to protect it in a fall apparently. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're careful! Good luck.

Better than the normal 3DS, not as good as the 2DS (as they don't have hinges so they can't break)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Not to be a downer, but it's only a matter of time. I would be EXTREMELY careful playing it. I've lost two DS Lites, and both succumbed to the cracked hinge.

Nothing to worry about I think, I've owned a lot of 3DSXL's and they all behave a bit different.
Some wobble more, some click more pronounced, some have hardly any click sound. I dont think it has any direct effect with what potentially could happen when you drop it, just use with care I'd say.

Mine has not broken but it is not as tight as I would like it. I suspect it is going to start wobbling soon it already can rock from front to back.
