Sure the wii has a bunch of games that need friend codes, but how about you can go on and see other peoples profiles, talk to them and compete together like you can on Xbox live. Live capabilities need to be on the 3DS (but free of course).
monster hunter tri: name: hakota HR 140+ / flipy HR 1 On: every other dayish. Current games: MHT, Kirbys Epic Yarn, SMG2, SSFIV. 3DS friend code: 3823 - 8517 - 3969 Wishlist: OoT3D, Mariokart3D, Kid icarus 3D, LoZ Skyward sword, and (in my imagination) Monster Hunter 3D.
Yes. I really hope for no friend codes. Maybe they will do thier own thing though. i mean if they are trying to go for the hardcore market like they have said before, then they have to do this because alot of people want it and it appeals more to the hardcore gamers. right?
Currently playing: 3DS: KI: Uprising Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles "Heh, heh... Thanks... You're nice. Umm... Can I ask... a question? Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these people... think of you...as a friend?"
ya. and im not nessesarily saying that they should have achievements and everything (although i wouldn't mind an online leaderboard), but at least make it better and on more games. They could do lots of cool things with animal crossing, or mariokart if they wanted to.

I have hope that Nintendo is going in the right way with the 3DS. They have already announced several things which I didn't expect (in a good way). They have already announced to improve the online shop so I think they do the same with the other online features.
It's looking like the 3DS online won't be a thing like Xbox Live or PSN. No friend codes, to be sure. But it seems more like the Street Fighter 4 thing, where you can play against others in the immediate area, or exchange data with people you pass on the street. Online hub games will probably work like Monster Hunter Tri or DQIX.
@5 same. @6 if they do something close to monster hunter tri or DQIX multiplayer i will be even more psyched! but i think that will only be the case for a select few quality games unfortunately. i think in the end more, but not all games (that can sencefully pull off a multiplayer online hub) will. even if they aren't all done very masterfully.
MY HOPE: the 3DS will have a general online hub for any game you play (just for the 3DS) then you can join different sections depending on what game you want to play with people. or jump in on another "zone" to get tips, or get a friend code from someone so you can meet them again, without that game being in. so its kind of like a giant chat room with your miis running around in it, with the ability to share profiles, or play multiplayer with people. also do the streetpass thingy online, even if you dont have the game in. with its 3DS24ish thing it should be able to sleep online with out shutting off wi-fi to which would be nice. also pleeeeeese let me pause a game and go do something else, or download a game while doing something else MULTI-TASKING IS GREAT! and pleese no motion senceing overdrive like on some of the wiis games. keep the amount of 3DS shaking to a minimum.
