Topic: 3DS eShop Recommendations thread

Which would you rather recommend: Mighty Switch Force or VVVVVV?
Also, which of the Rytmik games would you recommend?

Both are pretty short for their asking price. If I'd have to get only one I'd go with VVVVVV. It has more content. The main game itself should last you at least 5 hours depending how good you are at it. There's time trials and extra modes too. If you're easily frustrated though, I'd recommend Mighty Switch Force. Outstanding music, great sprites, decent difficulty, smart puzzles, and a great main character!
My favorite of the Rytmik games is Retrobits.
But obviously, that's my biased opinion.

technically yes you can, a game is $1.99 with 5% tax. Last i checked thats only 2.09, so he/she could get any 2 dollar game

@jason Some of my favorite $2 titles are Aura-Aura Climber, Pop Island Paperfield, and Advanced Circuits. If any of those look interesting to you, you might want to buy them.

Anyway, I’ve been sitting on ~12.50 for a while now, and I’m not sure how to spend it. I’ve only bought Pushmo so far. I was going to buy Zelda DX eventually as I’ve never played Link’s Awakening before, but somehow Zen Pinball has caught my eye. I’ve never really owned a pinball game before, so I’m a little dubious, but I feel like I might get more overall enjoyment out of it, and I’ve been playing tons of 3D Zelda lately.

With what’s left, I’m between Donkey Kong ’94 and a Tetris game (probably Tetris party live). I’d love to have a tetris title on my 3DS, but Donkey Kong was one of my very first games, I never beat it, and it would be hugely nostalgic for me. Also, if I don’t get tetris party now, I’ll probably get it later (but I’ve been saying that for like a year now ).

I’m not in a big rush to buy any game, but what do you guys think about these?

@Blue_Cat - I'd get DK '94 from that list. Great game, great value, just about everything about that game is awesome. Zen Pinball will be getting DLC in the future, so, especially if it's paid DLC, you may get a better value by waiting for that one. I'd then sit on the $8-ish you have left in your account and wait and see if anything comes out soon that's to your liking. That's just me, though.

Yeah except for the fact that it's boring and slow with really tiny levels. Meh. It's OK I guess. I prefer the original Donkey Kong or MInis over this. It's interesting being able to do handstands and stuff...but I didn't like it as much as the others (plus, I only have Minis because of the Ambassador Program).

If anyone likes games in which you die over and over, I would recommend most of the games in the G.G series. Tough as nails but they're fun. The Ninja game and Superhero Ogre are my two favorites from that series. And if anyone hasn't yet...download VVVVVV. It's awesome.

If you think you may be interested in Rytmik, I would try Rock Edition, as it is priced much cheeper (at least in NA). At $2, I think it has provided me with plenty of content, but it is one of those games where how much use you get out of it will be determined by the limits of your creativity. If nothing else, you could use Rock Edition as a taste test to see if you'll enjoy what the software can do.

I found some extra money, so I got VVVVVV and Mighty Switch Force, and both are very fun. I also decided to get Rytmik Retrobits, which I think was a good purchase. Thank you for all of your opinions!

Here are my thoughts on my purchased games:

Zen Pinball is a fun, addicting game, but better off as one marathon instead of a dozen bit-by-bit playthrough.

Mighty Switch Force is also fun, and its a good pick up and play game: play one Incident, close the game, reopen, play another Incident, rinse and repeat.

Pushmo is on the same boat as Mighty Switch Force.

Xevious is also a good game for short bursts, but holy **** is it hard. This is a better way of wasting time than Angry Birds.

Zenonia is amazing for the RPG lover (and I'm not talking about rocket-propelled grenades... but those are awesome too, lawl).

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again is a fun puzzle game like Pushmo.

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is a mini-Super Mario World, my favorite Mario game ever. It's fun, and I find myself replaying this game over and over again.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is a full-sized epic (for Game Boy, at least) that will keep you playing and playing until your eyes bleed out.

Metroid II is like a maze for me without a map, but its still a very fun game and is still worth your time.

Kirby's Dream Land just feels easy, and boring, but it's still a good game. Just not my type of game.

Tetris is Tetris. You don't mess with it, and you know what it is. I prefer it over Tetris Party Live, actually.

I downloaded so much stuff ever since September 10 (day I got my 3DS, yeah baby!). That is my full list of downloaded games (except Four Swords, but you should have gotten that game already).

Pushmo is to the 3DS what Shantae was to the DSi. Simply put, it's a system staple, one that everyone with a 3DS should own. It shows what the eShop is capable of, and has set the precedent for downloadable games to come. Its expertly-designed puzzles will have you giggling in wonder as you scale to the top of anything from a strawberry to a towering Goomba sprite. This surprising new IP from HAL Laboratories has given me more joy than most $40 retail titles for the system.

Mighty Switch Force is WayForward's first 3DS title, and one that I had been anticipating ever since its announcement. While the game is by all means good, it lacks the length and replayability of similarly-priced titles like Pushmo. For an action/puzzle game fan, or even just a WayForward fan, it's an instant buy for sure. For others, the pricepoint may be a tad too high.

VVVVVV is available on Steam for roughly half the price of its eShop counterpart. But should that deter you from downloading this version? Not at all. The game itself is a fantastic love letter to old-school 8-bit games of yore. It packs a challenge that can be frustrating at times, but it always feels rewarding. Along with the 2-hours-ish-long (depending on your skill level) main "campaign", the 3DS version also includes all of the fan-made levels the PC version has, including one made by Notch of Minecraft fame.

Mutant Mudds is a title that looked like it had potential, but at the same time looked as if it might waste that potential. I'm happy to say that the game is fantastic, and no screenshots will be able to tell you how great it feels to play. The challenge is just right and the visuals are pretty great.

Zen Pinball packs a surprising amount of replay value for such a simple title. I've never been a big pinball player, due mostly in part to my lack of a kajillion quarters. But video game pinball eliminates that issue, and as the first pinball game I've ever played, Zen Pinball has me impressed and already eager for DLC.

I don't want to waste too much page space, so I'll leave it at that for now. But here are a few other titles that I feel are must-haves:

Everything else, though, I agree with you. VVVVVV was fun getting the twenty trinkets, and Mutant Mudds is old-school platforming at its best.

So I just got a points card for my birthday and am wondering what to get. I only own Zelda DX and I just bought Pushmo. Since I don't own any DsiWare, I would like to get at least one of those. What would you say is a must have? I would like one with replay value since it's a download game and can't sell it to get money for more games. I've been looking at Art Style:Pictobits (looks fun), Antipole (seems unique and challenges add replay value), Zenonia (RPGs are my favorite, but is it big and epic enough to warrant a purchase?), Mighty Flip Champs (looks most intriguing to me of the Mighty games, but the price seems steep now that MSF is $2 cheaper), Magical Whip (doesn't look as fun to me, but Iove Bubble Bobble which it's compared to and it's the cheapest). Any suggestions from these or any other games? I'm not interested in Shantae until I can play the first one (come on VC!) or Cave Story or VVVVVV (played on PC already). Thanks.

Also, if I can only get one, Super Mario Land 2 or Metroid 2? I'm leaning toward Metroid because it seems more essential to the series' overall storyline.

Best DSiWare for me was Cave Story. Price may seem high, but it's worth it. Lots of content and a long main story. The music is magical, the graphics are charming, and the gameplay is so much fun. Easily worth the asking price. If you don't want to risk it though Pictobits is also very fun. It's a connect 4 puzzler with a retro theme. I love it a lot and spent hours on it. I'd lean more towards Cave Story though.
As for the 2 Gameboy games you asked about I can't say for sure since I haven't played either. Just be warned Metroid 2 can get frustrating.

I have a question, does Ryhmik Rock edition have much less content compared to the other Rhymik games? Should I get Rock edition, or wait untill I get some Cash and get just normal Rytmik?
