This is the first time I've played the original Kid Icarus. I'm loving it. The gameplay is immensely fun and the 3D and sound do not disappoint.

Well, I made it to 2-1, so I'm starting to get the feel for this game. ATM, I think I like it better than KI:U

I wish this would have just been a proper 3DS VC release. Save stating would help the experience so much.

Well I got this little title free for my Pre-order of KI: Uprising and my gosh. This title is simply amazing.

Now there are not to many Nes games that I can say I love and would want to play over and over again, but this game... It's just awesome.
The way it blends Zelda and Mario style gameplay is genius. Now it is on the short side though. Took about 5 or 6 hours for me to beat it. And the dungeons could have been laid out better (I just randomly walked into the boss fight with Pandora after walking around for 5 minutes) and the bosses... my gosh lol. They were easier than half the enemies I battled to get to them (Eggplant Wizard!!!)

I can easily recommend this title. It's a shame it took so long for me to play this masterpiece of A nes game

I've never played Kid Icarus, but I'd like to. Is there a good reason to buy the 3D Classics version instead of the Wii VC one? The 3D doesn't seem important enough, and I've heard both mixed opinions about the new backgrounds, and I already have points on my Wii so that version would basically be free. So is it worth the $6 to get that version instead?

Hard call for me to make. I think I enjoy it on the Wii more just due to being able to use the Wii remote, and the big screen.
Besides those two pluses, I would say the 3DS one. I've had it on both (got the 3DS one for free). I actually don't have any problem with the added backgrounds and stuff. I think it adds to it a little bit; makes it more detailed.

Yeah I think I'll probably go with the Wii won unless somebody can talk me into the 3D one. If it was made for a console, I usually prefer to play it on a console.

By the way, the 3DS one does let you have three saves files and the Wii download (the original) does not. But, you can do a "quick save" or whatever it is really called on the Wii, where you can go back to the Wii menu before you turn off the Wii every time you want to 'save' and quit.

I got it for free on the 3DS, but I would have paid 6 bucks for it if I had to. If you enjoy a good, old school NES challange, that I'd think you'd like it.

Agggghhhh! I finally get to the end of 1-4 and what am I, but an eggplant! I just wandered there and somehow forgot I was an eggplant. Couldn't find any MINOR SPOILER hos"pit"al END Minor Spoiler so I never changed back. But in all seriousness, great game so far!

Here is a hint on 1-4 (cause it's easy to get lost).
There is a room, that if you climb down the ladder in the bottom of the room, you fall into another room, with nothing but what seems to be an unreachable platform and door on the left side of the room. The only other way out is another ladder under you.
You need to get to that door on the left.
Get back up to the room you originally climbed down from. Go to the far left of the ladder, climb down, and continue to hold left to get to the platform leading to the door. I hope that made sense.

Thanks! Gaming is a way of coping for many, "getting by", or trying to focus on something else other than worry or the strength needed to heal. Playing video games gets me (and others) through a lot I am sure

What have they done to my beloved Kid Icarus 'Sound Effects wise'?
I hate the new sound Pit makes when he gets hit...I't's like an 8-bit "ow!" instead of the magical trippy sound he made in the original. Plus 'Death'
Sounds like a barking crow now, and they changed the jumping sound AND the footstep SFX, not to mention a couple of others. Why in the hell did they make these changes? It all sounds worse and pretty annoying if you ask me. I put in maybe 10 minutes and i just wasn't up for it, considering i just beat Wario Land II.

Those are actually the original sound effects. The game was released for the Famicom Disc System in Japan which had a superior sound chip compared to Famicom and NES. When it was released in the west they had to replace them with the "classic ones". Since they're technically inferior, the other ones are back now.

@waveboy Nah don't bother with the centurions, I don't think it's necessary to free them all, but go ahead if you want the challenge. I personally didn't bother because I just wanted to get a good high score at the end of the game and get the most hearts, plus on the other hand centurions die really easily in the boss fights which you use them in, it's just not worth it to me.
@grumblegrumble Wow, thanks thats great of you to share and what a coincidence us both playing the game having cancer (of some sort). I LOL'd when you mentioned Zelda II, cos I stink at that game and it's harder than Kid Icarus too.

So do you guys bother to try and rescue all of the Angels turned to Stone in the palaces by smashing them with your trust mallets which you constantly need to buy? Or do you just free them with the ones you already have and ignore the rest?

Part of me wants to free them all, because it feels like you 'should' and it makes the palace gameplay feel more full and complete, but a large chunkster' of me hates them in battle. I want to go against the boss one on one without any help getting in the way or making the battle easier. The first Palace bosses health guage i went up against was basically slaughtered, since i rescued all of the angels.

Edit: Currently on stage 3-4(3rd Palace) and good lord I think I'm about to have a mental videogame meltdown.lol Talk about confusing, it's bad enough that the map itself is so hard to find. eek! BTW the new backdrops added for stages 3-1 & 3-2 are pretty gorgeous! defniitly sets off a dreamy surreal look in combination with the colorful level design itself.

Haha! You see what I went through in the 80's now as a kid playing this when it came out It was a very confusing but addictive game! Yes, the levels look AMAZING with the new backdrops. I can't imagine playing the old version now!

Very good, classic game. Love the save files....but....is it just me, or did they use to let you keep your power ups for a second play through? Now, they are all gone after you beat it. That really sucks.

@Joshers744 - there appears to be no New Game + option like in the original NES game.

On that note, I did Beat this game last night - however, I still have yet to get the Best Ending.

Game was OK, better than I thought (but not by much) and waaaay easier than first anticipated.
