Yeah, i remember playing other games like "Sword Art Lycoris" it had additional content available but it was region restricted. I remember the website specifically saying something about needing a VPN.

@johnjohnjohnjohnjohn Game Freak has 169 employees and started developing Scarlet and Violet in 2019, while developing Legends Arceus. And sure, many other companies and individuals helped out.
I'm not sure if you know how much effort it takes to develop a game like this, but to put it in perspective, Nintendo EPD has around 900 employees and started developing Breath Of The Wild right after Skyward Sword, in 2011.
I'm not trying to stick up for this bad practice because The Pokemon Company shouldn't let this happen but keep in mind they are only human.

Difference being that NinjaNicky isn't trying to sell what they have written, customers are well within their right to expect a quality product. Considering the money Pokemon makes from games, cards and merchandise, they can afford to do decent quality control

@Dazman None of the codes for the games are region restricted. So you shouldn't need a VPN. Unless I'm missing the point of your post.

@NinjaNicky The bugs are more or less gone now and the game is excellent and easily the best entry since Gen 5, other then performance issues and the poor launch the game is one of the series high points.

I think its the best since Gen 5 because its got a good story, great characters, a great rival, great selection of new PM with some very strong new additions, a big open world with complete freedom, PM giving more life then ever, a great soundtrack and adds some nice QoL stuff.

@DennisReynolds "other than performance issues"... Good performance should be bare minimum. A good story doesn't make up for terrible frame rate, pop ins and odd glitches. If this was any other game it'd be slated but because it's Nintendo, it's ignored. The open world is big but empty, characters are forgettable, performance is terrible and graphically, it's extremely weak. They've tried to do so much and it's not worked how they expected it to.

@NinjaNicky I could be wrong, but isn't this the most "lambasted" mainline Pokemon in history? It is sitting at a 72 on Metacritic which is still well bellow the average. Sword and Shield 80, Legends Arceus 83, Sun and Moon 87, Ultra Sun and Moon 84, Pokemon X and Y 87, Black and White 87, Black 2 and White 2 80. I'm pretty sure the issues are not ignored because Nintendo. That is just objectively wrong. When a game is reviewed all aspects of the game are taken into account and that also applied to Scarlet and Violet. Considering Pokemon tends to more often then not get an 87 and on the low-end gets an 80-83... I think it's safe to say people have noticed. If the technical issues were fixed then it probably be the best game in the series.

@DennisReynolds listed some of the very appealing parts of the game. Just because some people can look over the technical issues and still love the game, does not mean that the issues are being ignored by reviewers and the general public.

@SpaceboyScreams If this is the worst game you've ever played... you've not played many games. I recommend jumping on Steam and downloading some truly terrible games.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are a really enjoyable experience. How can you not enjoy Arven and his story? Or the pretty down to earth story of Team Stars? Clavell is a very engaging character which is a sharp criticism of the education system and how they ignore bullying. There is a lot to the story beyond "big out of control legendary Pokemon is running out of control due to the evil team!!! We must stop it with the other super powerful legendary pokemon!" Plot we've had since what... gen 3? It is refreshing. Yes the technical issues are annoying and while I can overlook them, I understand not everyone can.

But, this is far from the "worst game evar!!!!" label.

Whenever I hop on one of these articles I'm always shocked by the sheer entitlement of the Pokemon fanbase. Technical issues aside, it must be hard working on this franchise.

Fan: "I want all 1000+ Pokemon, and regional forms available from day 1!! And each one must show personality, cuteness, and be the way they are in the anime. I also want the game to be as big as Breath of the Wild, and I want the gyms to be playable in any order with unique teams depending on when I battle them. I also want more Pokemon. I also, want a super complex story like I'm watching an anime. I also want brand new battle mechanics... while at the same time I want Megas, Dynamax, Z-moves and Terastallization in the game even though it be super unbalanced. I also want all my favorite games remade, and I want them in-between new generation games every three years. Oooh and all my previously caught Pokemon should be transferable in the game at launch."

I understand Pokemon is a massive brand... but guys... there is going to be growing pains to the series and a lot of those demands are just not possible to get the game out within a timely manner. To be honest... it is just not possible to do all of that and have the game ship out even within 8 years of dev time. I understand Gamefreak kind of did this to themselves by overdelivering on a lot of that during the Gameboy-3DS eras... but on HD systems (and soon 4K systems) that era of game development would require a studio far larger than anything Gamefreak has ever handled before and the scope would be unimaginable.

I do not envy those who work on this franchise.

@NinjaNicky Performance is pretty bad in TotK as well because guess what the Switch is pretty dated. Forgettable characters? I mean one of the things fans love about the game is the characters especially Larry and Nemona. The open world is fine, its there to see PM in the wild living their life and to catch them and it succeeds at that.

@Wexter Yeah i haven't ignored the performance issues its just the high points for me outweigh the issues.

@DennisReynolds the Switch was dated the day it was released, it was using 5 year old tech on the year of release but some games still look great. This is the first real big open world Pokémon and I see it as a practice run for a better Pokémon game. I'm hoping a Switch 2 is released next year and a new Pokémon is released and giving fans exactly what they want on day 1.

@Wexter all the technical problems I had with it have been ignored since thousands of people complained in the first week of release and they've still not fixed it. They should have had a smaller map and filled it. It suffers the same problem as most open world games these days, they favour huge empty maps over smaller dense maps. I had it day 1, I liked it until the pop ins started getting very noticeable, the people in the background moved like stop motion robots and the textures on certain things were on par with a PS2 game
