Rumour: New Switch Bundle Featuring Mario Movie Bonus Supposedly Launching "Soon"

Hm. That’s a pretty good offer right there for a little bonus. Also, why is that image redacted? Unless it’s a direct promo from Nintendo with all the bonuses mentioned above, that image looks like something I could drum up in photoshop. Ah well.

Be pretty silly to not capitalize on the movie.

If they aren’t making a brand new Mario game, then a switch bundle with movie tickets + Odyssey seems like the obvious second choice. I’d love some type of DLC for Odyssey, even if it’s just movie skins.

Pity. I was hoping they'd release a small side game or something in conjunction with the release of the film.

If they don't want to make a brand new Mario game they still could give Galaxy 2 the port it deserves

@Scrubicius : Not everybody will want to pay the premium for the OLED model (plus, the standard model is routinely available for considerably less), especially those who intend to use the Switch mostly if not exclusively docked.

To be blunt, I'm surprised we haven't heard about some mobile app. Anyhoo, I get folk want a Mario game day and date with the movie, but you don't build up any momentum by just throwing all your cards on the table at once. It kinda ends the game.

How would it be "movie vouchers"? I've never seen a movie specific voucher, it's only ever a voucher for a cinema chain. Why would Nintendo bundle a ticket for a cinema chain when that ticket can be used on any movie?

To be clear, that's essentially Nintendo paying for someone to watch a random movie. Makes zero sense.

Also, the more SKUs you create, the more expensive they are to make. Cinema chains differ in every Country, as do terms and conditions and requirements, so you'd need a cinema voucher SKU for every country... No chance they're doing that!

@NewAdvent I agree it makes sense for Nintendo to leverage existing Mario games. I don't agree with the idea they don't want to "rush".

Mario Odyssey is 5 and a half years old.
New Super Mario Bros U is 10 and a half years old.

New 2D Mario is long, long overdue.
New 3D Mario is due.

I see no rushing.

Delaying for future hardware... there is definitely a high chance we are seeing that.

Maybe it’s the Mario Odyssey bundle from 2017 that gets a rerelease with a red box Switch v2?

If it's just the existing red, non-OLED, Switch with some bonus item thrown in then I'm safe - already got a red one.

@GrailUK A Sonic 2 type situation could happen (Sonic 2 movie released in April 2022 and Sonic Frontiers released in November 2022) but then again if Nintendo had something as big as a new Mario platformer releasing this holiday, surely they'd be at E3 which they're not.

I'd be more likely to get the rumored Zelda OLED Switch, to be honest. I like Mario fine, but I'm more of a Zelda fan.

But I will likely be in the market for a new Switch, because I think the fan in my launch-day model is dying. It's making a loud whining noise (as in, REALLY loud), so I'm afraid to use it.

It was able to last through the latest Splatfest, but I dare not use it again until I can either replace the fan or buy a new Switch altogether.

It would be absolutely crazy to see the 35th anniversary colours again.

E3 is dead, or close enough. Nintendo will have a big June Direct w/ all of their holiday games, currently nothing is coming after 7/21 Pikmin 4. Not saying we’ll get SMO 2 this holiday, but SMG2 remastered maybe. Plus I think I’ve seen you say elsewhere they’d announce Switch 2 this summer IF it is coming next March, which seems a possibility, so we could see a dual port SMO 2 for launch. But we’ll get something this holiday, E3 doesn’t matter, it’s over.

SMO bundle was our Switch purchase 5 1/2 years ago so if they are just re-releasing that, well that’s bare minimum effort. At least make it the OLED model, maybe get some people to upgrade.

Don’t really see the need to tie in a game with a movie though. If they want to use the movie to promote Mario games how about putting all of the many old Mario games already on Switch - 2 party games, Maker, Paper, vs Rabbids, Sports, 3-pack, 3DW, Odyssey - into a discounted “Mario Select Classics” line w/ an image of his hat on each cover art or something.

Shame these arent the Switch 2 yet.. can't really bother with buying a fancy 7 year old console.

I had the same thing happen to my launch model. I'd be playing some very non-taxing games like Mario Maker 2 and the fan would get real loud, didn't seem to matter what I played. Anyways, I kept playing like that trying to ignore it, and after a few weeks or so, the noise stopped. However, this was not good. I thought the problem had fixed itself somehow and was enjoying the silence but while recording Mario 3D World, and error popped up telling me that the system was overheating and going into sleep mode.

So everything was fine, it shut off before any damage could occur. Then I took it to a local game store and they fixed the fan for pretty cheap, and the thing seems to run like new.

@Nintendo_Thumb If I do decide to fix the fan, I may DIY it. Since I got mine on launch day, any warranty on it has long since expired.

As it is, I already DIY'ed they Joy-Cons that came with the system, as they also suffered from drift a little over a year after I got the system.

But if that rumored Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch is confirmed to be real, I'll likely get that and keep my original Switch as a backup.
