XSEED Games will showcase a total of five Switch games at E3 2019. Three of these games have just been announced for Nintendo's hybrid platform.
Here's what you can expect: BurgerTime Party!, Heroland, Rune Factory 4 Special, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin and Senran Kagura: Peach Ball. In addition to this, XSEED also has "a grand new title" to reveal in the coming days. This will be for a mystery game and will be displayed alongside the previously-mentioned titles. Below are more details about the playable Switch games expected to be on show:
BurgerTime Party!
BurgerTime Party! is the first of the three new games. It is being developed by G-Mode and is due out fall 2019. This title is said to be a "tasty reimagining" of Data East's 1982 arcade release. Here's a synopsis:
Chef Peter Pepper and the Food Foes return to serve up a fresh look and tons of new gameplay in this tasty reimagining of Data East’s 1982 arcade classic! After firing up the grill for some action, new modes and items will have modern chefs thinking outside of the bun to solve bite-sized puzzles like crumbling floors, oil spills, and freezing ladders, all while evading edible enemies both old and new. Local multiplayer lets two to four friends cooperate as cooks or compete as cuisine across 100-plus stages that will keep the fun from getting stale long past Mr. Hot Dog’s expiration date. Now, let’s get cooking!
Heroland
Up next is Heroland - another new announcement for Switch. It's developed by FuRyu and is due out this year. There's a lot of talent involved in this upcoming release, including individuals who previously worked on titles such as Mother 3, Fantasy Life and Legend of Mana.
Put on your nostalgia goggles for this single-player RPG about a theme park where guests can explore dungeons, beat up baddies, and become legendary heroes—while the player assists from the sidelines as a tour guide! Released in Japan as Work x Work, this tale of princes and pixels is told by over 20 quirky characters, including overzealous knights, an irascible otter, and… *checks notes* man-eating broccoli? When the Dark Lord’s monsters are also your coworkers, it’s hard to draw the line between work and play! Directed by Takahiro Yamane (Fantasy Life), written by Nobuyuki Inoue (Legend of Mana), set in a colorful 2D world created by Nobuhiro Imagawa (MOTHER 3, Legend of Mana), and jam-packed with Tsukasa Masuko’s (Shin Megami Tensei) whimsical tunes, this adventure is one that cannot be forgotten!
Rune Factory 4 Special
Rune Factory 4 Special is one we already knew about and is due out later this year. It's being developed by Hakamara and Marvelous Inc. You can find out more about it in our previous post.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
In addition to a PC and PlayStation 4 release, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will now be released on the Switch as well. It is created by Edelweiss and arrives this winter. Below is the description and above is the E3 2018 trailer:
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruincombines side-scrolling action with deep crafting and farming simulation. Players take on the role of Sakuna, a spoiled harvest goddess banished to a dangerous island with a group of outcast humans. As she explores the beautiful, forbidding environments of the island, she will also find a home in a mountain village, proving herself worthy of her title by harvesting rice and bettering the lives of humans. In addition to being a fresh take on Japanese mythology and a love letter to action games, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is an ode to rice and an engrossing simulation of the craft behind the agriculture.
Senran Kagura: Peach Ball
Lastly, we have Senran Kagura: Peach Ball - originally announced for the west in April. This game is being developed by Honey Parade Games and Marvelous Inc and will be available on 9th July.
Are you looking forward to finding out more about each of these games during E3 2019? What do you think the mysterious game could be? Tell us below.

Does this grand new title start with "Story" by any chance
fate grand order arcade switch
Weebs, I swear. Seriously though, those are some very Japanese games. Not really stuff I'm interested in. I mean, they do good translation work, but, yeah.
A Trails in the Sky Switch collection might be kinda cool?
If the Story of Seasons for Switch still have awful character design like on 3DS and Visual Novel style conversations, i would rather choose other farming sim games.
I’m down for some BurgerTime Party!
Sakuna looks great. Looking forward to it.
OH!! Akiba's Strip sequel?!?! By the looks of the icon, it seems they are returning to 1's original formula, instead of that trash Akiba's Beat sequel. A true sequel! Please let that be on Switch, shoot I'll buy it on PC if it doesn't come. I can't skip on that title.
I'm also pumped for Rune Factory 4 Special.
Already own Rune Factory 4, so Sakuna is the only one on my radar. Might get Peach Ball down the line on sale if it turns out to be a halfway decent pinball game.
What I really want is a traditional SK action game like Burst Re;Newal. Sony doesn't want SK, Marvelous. Put these games on Switch.
I'll nab Akiba's Trip if it comes to Switch.
@Morrow It's a remake of the first Akiba's Trip that we never got in the West.
@TobiasAmaranth What were you expecting? It's XSeed. They are a subsidiary of Marvelous and publish Japanese games. You're never going to see XSeed publishing american games.
Ys Collection (Seven, Celceta, Felghana, Napishtim, 1 & 2 Chronicles) or Trails in the Sky Trilogy.
Having a game like Peach Ball showcased at E3 is pretty ballsy. Props to them.
Heroland sounds cool, I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for that one.
Sakuna looks solid, but it honestly just makes me wish vanillaware would finally release the extra Muramasa content from its Vita shaped coffin.
Was great waking up to this.
Keen af for workland and possibly gonna pick up rune factory 4 and akiba trip.
@Morrow Remaster of first game apparently
I'll take Peach Ball, Rune Factory and Sakuna. Yum.
Tho I'd rather take S7nran Kagura.
Wow. Sakuna looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
@Morpheel Hmmm, I was thinking of another story different from yours but since it doesn't belong to XSeed it's probably just wishful thinking at best.
I’ll definitely get RF4S - it was one of my all-time favourites on 3DS, and I’ve been meaning to start another play-through for ages, but the 3DS screen looks so small and fuzzy now compared to the Switch that I kept putting it off. Sakuna looks gorgeous, as well (I had no idea this game even existed!) so that goes on my list too.
My poor wallet...if nothing major is delayed, there are over 15 games between retail and indies on my wish list that are releasing in 2019. 💸
@TechaNinja Wasn't Undead and Undressed the first one? I'm confused.
@TobiasAmaranth I'd take Japanese games over western games 9 times out of 10.
@Ralizah you say remake of the first one we never got in the west, but I was under the assumption Undead and Undressed was the first one?
@Heavyarms55 Same here. Although, Bethesda has been making a lot of trash games as of late, and Bioware got screwed by EA. So really, is there any good AAA american Devs left? One that doesn't do loot boxes, no insanely costly dlc, no micro transactions, just a full on game experience. I can't think of one.
@mauhlin12 I would love to see all of the Ys games on Switch, but I can't see Celceta being part of a collection given that it has just been released on its own for PS4 at pretty much full price.
I would expect to maybe see Ys Origin appear on Switch next, although it will probably be digital only. I suspect if the other games see a release they will also be digital only.
@Morrow Umm well ChuckleFish who did Wargroove and published Stardew. And the guy who actually made Stardew.
Not AAA but that label us nearly meaningless to me.
@BionicDodo Ys 8 was physical. Ys is their best selling series. They wouldnt make it digital only, as that would limit sales.
@Morrow Nah it's the 2nd game. Xseed work in mysterious ways.
@Morrow Undead and Undressed was actually Akiba's Trip 2 in Japan. The first one on the PSP never got a Western release.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, there are still good american Devs, but those are mainly indie. I'm talking about the big guys. AAA used to mean something back in the early 2000s-2013 ish. When loot boxes became popular, that's when all AAA games started going to ish
@TechaNinja @Ralizah Thanks both of you for the info. Mind blown. Well since I don't know JP, that's a new game to me, since I never played it. That would make trash Akiba's Beat the third game. God that game sucked.
@Morrow Ys 8 was their newest game though, the others have been around for many years. I can see some maybe getting physical releases in Asia, but I don't think Ys Origin got a physical release in the West on Vita, PS4 or Xbone.
@Morrow I like tales games so I enjoyed Akiba Beat
Never played an xseed game. The Sakuna one caught my eye though
@BionicDodo

Also, it's important to know Ys Origin is more of a spin off, because it doesn't have Adol in it. Adol's story is the main focus of Ys.

Celceta also got a physical edition in the west sold in stores. Any mainline Ys game (meaning the ones where you play as Adol), will always have physical editions in the West.
@TechaNinja So do I. Problem is, that's not what Akiba Trip was about. It went away from the fromula that made it amazing in the first place. It took a more hardcore serious approach, which automatically made it a lot worse. If you never played Akiba's Trip, it could have been a good game. It's a bad Akiba game.
@Morrow Sorry, I wasn't counting limited run type releases when I said physical release. I meant a full retail release like Ys VIII got. Celceta has only had a retail release in the West when it was a brand new game for the Vita. We are yet to see whether the PS4 version will hit shelves in the West.
I'm still not convinced that if they release say Ys I&II for Switch that it will have a physical release beyond maybe a limited run type thing. We shall just have to wait and see though and I would love to have them all on my shelf in matching cases, so I hope you're right.
Now if they could just announce Ys IX for Switch...
Sakuna looks gorgeous! RF4 is awesome. A remake of The Last Story would be on my wish list.
@TobiasAmaranth Could be worse. They could have been furry games 😦
I appreciate the work that XSEED does, so I'll be a buyer for every one of these games that get a physical release on Switch.
@BionicDodo They lost the rights to the Ys deal.
NIS America has it now for any new titles.
Why doesn't the article mention "Akiba's Trip"? It's clearly pictured in the banner
@Tandy255
Yeah. I'm excited to try that one too.
@retro_player_22 that doesn't start with story though
@Morpheel No, but Rune will give you the fix you're looking for in that regard. Just with a bit of adventuring and more crafting on the side.
Man I would love Trails In The Sky.
... err, -64.
@Silvermyst ??? This line of replies goes from one off topic tangent to another.
Edit: or were you replying to my first post? In that case ok, but I don’t like rune factory at all.
@TobiasAmaranth I dunno. A lot I'm more neutral about most of the titles but I like the concept of the one about the Harvest goddess in a mix of platformer and farm management gameplay. It seemed visually decently polished too, at least.
I would also like more Ys or Trails. I would definitely buy that.
Of this, I guess I'm most interested in Rune Factory and the rest is a pass
Wild Arms? A Remake would be REALLY good.
@BionicDodo I agree that Ys Origin will probably be the next game to come over since it's already out on everything else, even XB1. I only didn't mention it here since it was published by DotEmu, not XSeed (at least on PS4.) I'd be happy to play through all 3 stories again on Switch! I'm also waiting on news of a western release of Celceta on PS4, the only mainline Ys I haven't played in any form is Ys 4.
I am definitely getting the RF4 for my switch. Looking forward to this year's E3!
@Morpheel, Hakama has confirmed they are working on a new SOS. It was briefly mentioned in an interview about the SOS x Dorameon title. I'm going to flip of they announce it at E3 though. I've been waiting for a new SOS for years.
@BionicDodo Ys 1-2 would prob be digital due to how old they are. Celceta still counts though. It has a physical in the West with Vita. I'm fully confident Celceta would have physical if sold on Switch, in the West. Ys 9 won't come to Switch for at least a year after launch. That's how Ys 8 worked, and how we can expect 9 to work as well. That will for sure have a physical as well.
Here's how you can determine if it will have a physical or not. If it has the older games with the outdated combat system (origin, Ys 1-6) it will be digital only.
If it is the newer games that are more enhanced in visuals and gameplay, (Celceta, 8-9) it will be physical in the West.
@Borngis Don't expect that to happen.
@NinChocolate Really?
@Ralizah The Switch should definitely become the new home for the SK series now that Sony wants to censor everything. It's not like Nintendo haven't supported mainline SK games on the 3DS. If Nintendo released Burst Renewal on the Switch it'd be a first day purchase for me even though I have the PS4 version. Ironically, if you have a JP account on your PS4 you can download the Japanese demo for SKBR which contains everything they censored in the West.
@Eel First post, yes.
