To celebrate the release of Wargroove this week, the team at Chucklefish held a Reddit AMA. One of the most commonly asked questions was if the game would receive post-release support.
The good news is the team are “definitely interested” in supporting Wargroove with ongoing updates in the future, but wanted to first take in all the feedback provided by the game’s community after the big launch. The CEO of Chucklefish reiterated this, mentioning how free content and quality of life improvements were definitely on the way. One idea in mind is to possibly add a ranked mode in the future, to satisfy the game’s competitive community:
“We're waiting to see how the online play evolves and whether or not a ranked mode would fit. We don't want to divide the playerbase right away, but it's on our maybe list.”
The Chucklefish CEO was happy to reveal there would eventually be downloadable content for the game as well but said the team couldn’t reveal anything about it just yet. A physical release is also in consideration, but once again, there’s nothing to officially announce right now.
Have you tried out Wargroove yet? What do you think of it so far? Tell us below.

what did we do to deserve Chucklefish 😢😭
User's created maps are more than enough, what DLC can they add?
@Retupmocnin
Id go for a "modern" skin some day w/ tanks/infantry Advance Wars-style. But its no rush, the game got plenty of content as it is, and probably with much user made content in the near future.
@tossedllama the game is sooo good, it’ll be worth a double dip.
So icing on top of already delicious cake? Count me in!
I'll take it, the game is already great and is oozing with content to boot. I have a feeling this game will keep me busy for quite some time.
@Charlie_Girl endure a world with EA. The balance of light and darkness must be maintained - with the amount of lootboxes and half baked games we’re swamped with, someone has to be the hero!
Really glad to hear! I'm still in the tutorials, but this game is legit, and polished to a shine - Nintendo caliber stuff.
I hope that, if they never plan on putting out a physical version, they tell us. Because I'm holding off on this game, in case they do. I just hope it's not through limited run, or similar companies. I hate paying extra for shipping and/or importing.
Wargroove is great
I plan on picking this up in the future once my backlog gets a bit lower (down to less than 10 games unplayed after beating SteamWorld Heist this morning!). I am glad to see they will be adding DLC down the line.
Having an abosolute blast with this game, both in the campaign and playing online with a friend. They seriously did such a good job with this game. Can't wait to try out the campaign editor!
Nice, Chucklefish seems like a good developer (developed Starbound as well) when it comes to free DLC/updates. Nice to see an Advance Wars-style game get made, and it looks like they got the price right - $20 is well worth it.
@RasandeRose They could add the additional missions to the campaign and arcade mode. They could also add more commanders. Would love to see that. ^^
I am absolutely loving the game so far. As for DLC, I'd love to see more commanders, more units and additional music.
Wargroove is brilliant so far. I’ve paid £50 for far worse games than this!
Good. it's still an average game so it's been expected
The tagline says "Chucklefish committed", but it doesn't say what they committed. /s
I’d definately be interested in more content. As long as they don’t make it even harder. Challenging and so addictive so far.
@Dayton311 nice to hear I'm not the only one with a crazy backlog of unstarted games
I'm highly confident that it will get a physical release. Between all of the rave reviews and the fact that Chucklefish has already stated that they are very interested in the idea, I think it's a no-brainer.
Good stuff.
These guys deserve to have success with this game, simply for giving us something many Nintendo fans have been asking Nintendo to give us for a long time.
Added this game to my wishlist, looks really cool.
loving it so far. $20 is a steal for all the content.
This game is currently scratching an itch. One of those nice, deep scratches that makes you go, “aaaaaaah! Mmmmmmm fibbblefibble”.
@RasandeRose well, one of the characters mentioned coming from a place with “blasters” and “monsters” so who knows what’s coming down the pipeline
I hope they remove the 1-star limit for making the game easier. Sucks that those of us with cognitive issues are punished for playing on easier difficulties.
I like this game. Voice acting reminds me of octopath.
Is it me or are the side missions way harder than the story missions? Caesar is cute but his missions are pretty hard (but doable after some attempts).
Just 4 things I would like changed:
.) The cursor moves invisibly during battle animations if you keep pushing the dpad or stick and after the sequence your screen is moved.
.) when a unit close at the border is attacked by the enemy you just See the Enemy and not your Unit.
.) movement of the curser should be clicking instead of silent (with turn on/off switch)
.) there should be a third zoom option for handheld mode. No zoom is too small and in zoom mode everything is too big.
Bonus: the Menus for user generated content is not very intuitive. There should be an extra button for it.
@Spiders How about music and presentation etc? I was a little disappointed with Mercenaries Saga Chronicles and found it a little glitchy/samey. Is it better and more polished? Advance Wars polished??
@Samwise7
I've played Advance Wars extensively, as you can tell by my avatar, but I'd put Wargroove's polish at just a hair below AW.
.) - Advance Wars is superior in the little things, however, and all these little things add up in a time consuming genre like this. As another user pointed out, the cursor is weaker. It can stray on you if you hold the DPad during any menu/animation. It is also completely silent.
.) - The 'speed up' process is also clunky. In AW, the Fast forward feature is mapped to a different button press than 'Tile Info'. Not the case in WG. They're both mapped to 'B' despite the Switch having MORE much buttons than the GBA and DS. So after my turn ends and the opponent's turn starts, I find myself reading a information on a random tile near the center of the map.
.) - The 'Skip animation' is useless too. AW nailed this feature. In the earlier entries, you could skip the entire animation. Days of Ruin had the best, you can fast forward and slow down the entire scene at will AND still see the satisfaction blowing up the enemy. WG's is clunky. You can Fast forward the movement phase, but once a battle animation starts, it takes at least 3 seconds to skip it. In other words most of the time you'll just watch the slow animation of a group of Swordsmen appearing, yelling 'AAAYYYEEEEE' and then finally rushing the enemy, and right before they deliver the hit the scene FINALLY skips. So you watch all of nothing, and miss all the important info like how much damage you actually did. Also the transition from animation back to Movement phase is quick if you're still holding the fast forward button, so sometimes it's hard to see how much damage I did before the next animation scene starts. know I can just turn the animations off, but again it's nice to see the SATISFACTION of your unit pummeling the other. It's just too damned slow.
.) -The camera 'Pan' feature straight up sucks. If you're playing on a large map, and you want to quickly move your cursor to the other side, too bad, you have to hold DPad until you get there. You can pan the camera, but your cursor stays put on the same tile you left it. If you hit DPad the camera snaps back across the map. In AW, you can hold B to pan, and once you release, your cursor actually followed the camera.
.) -It's VERY easy to outright end your turn if you aren't paying attention. In AW, you press Menu button, End Turn, and move the cursor to Yes to confirm. It's a very quick process yet concise and prompt. In WG, the Menu buttom is ALSO mapped to tile selection, so if you simply click an empty tile, it brings up the menu, and the default cursor location is 'End Turn.' Pressing A again WILL end it. No prompt, no confirmation. In other words, merely pressing A twice with a cursor that isn't precise to begin with (and doesn't have audio) on the movement phase can screw up the entire game. I've done it a few times already when I've had units who haven't acted yet.
Overall WG is a GREAT game! I'm loving it but the minor stuff is adding up. It really is a good mix of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Chucklefish does a SPLENDID job on the lore of the world, characters and EVEN the units themselves. If they can patch these minor things, then I can confidently put this game up there with AW.
Honestly, the only thing I want is for the Steam version to get Workshop/mod support.
@RasandeRose Even if that was a joke, that comment was uncalled for, so please don't make such remarks towards those with special needs
@UnbreakableAlex
Id like zooming like in Advance Wars Days of ruin. There you could switch between views with the click of a shoulder button, and it didn't just zoom in the entire picture, it switched between seperate graphics, so you didn't just get huge pixels by zooming.
I really need to give this game a try.
Advance Wars is one of my most favourite game franchises of all time besides Golden Sun and sadly it has also been dormant for quite some long.
I have been hearing a lot of good stuff about Wargroove and this news helps its case even more!
Is the campaign really hard or am I just terrible?
@Charlie_Girl Nothing, but we sure do enjoy their games!
@ermzzz I totally agree with you, and I believe games should be more accessible for more people. that includes providing sliding difficulty options.
They said the same about Pocket Rumble. I'll believe it when i see it.
@Acein210 I do believe that due to the high sales and excitement, Chucklefish will support this game. I totally agree with you about Pocket Rumble though. That was really disappointing.
I was going to buy wargroove this weekend but I didn't have time yet. I guess next weekend... I feel like I'm missing out for now though. If a physical edition is made it might just be a double buy for me, if the reviews are any indication.
@Retupmocnin new factions? Story? Units?
You name it.
@Charlie_Girl
Calm down, its not a hateful comment, I just don't want my games simplified. Its not "hate" towards people just to write out a simple opinion that includes a comment about a specific group, I didn't write anywere that I hate anyone. Todays youngsters really needs to man up, not be offended of everything and anything.
@Charlie_Girl We need to live up to the standard that we may be worthy of Chucklefish.
@forumposter21 Have you played Tiny Metal? How do you compare it?
I feel like Tiny Metal makes some things shallower (no keeping track of fuel/ammo, no transports or naval units), but adds some things that weren't in AW1 and 2, like anti-tank infantry being slightly worse at capturing and slower than standard infantry, dedicated sniper units and the Assault and Lock On/Focus Fire tactics (though maybe those were in later AW, I only played the first two). It's a shame AI doesn't use Assault or Lock On/Focus Fire at all.
liking this so far not my type of game but seems another great indie! agree on difficulty options, they should be available on all games, not sure why people would get upset at that? just pick the highest difficulty if you want to!
@forumposter21 Brilliant, that's EXACTLY the kind of minute details I was after. And you are right, with the little things it just adds up over time and lessens your enjoyment. Let's hope they patch these things as surely they are relatively simple. Like a silent click arrow, how could they miss that lol? Thanks SO much.
@Samwise7 The music is very well done - medieval war themes and plucky "town and village" tunes - and I like it so far, and the sound effects are very satisfying. It loses points in presentation compared to AW, but it was such a stylish series and WG is a bit more utilitarian.
Finished the first zone and I can happily say if Nintendo's polish is '10', Wargroove's is an impressive '9 and change'.
The mechanic for capturing and healing units is a marked improvement over AW, and i'm hoping for more clever tweaks to surface.
@Charlie_Girl Thanks. I wish more people shared that opinion. Every time I bring up the idea of adding accessibility options to a game, I get bombarded by people like @RasandeRose who feel I should be excluded from the hobby because I'm not capable of playing these games without the inclusion of easier modes.
@Spiders Brilliant thanks. I hope Intelligent Systems are watching and give us a brand new AW for the Switch. Surely it's the perfect platform for it?
@ermzzz and I am so sorry. that is in no way right or fair.
you deserve to play whatever game you want.
everyone does.
@Samwise7 Yes! I think with Fire Emblem going the tentpole route, a lower budget handheld style Advance Wars would be well recieved.
Switch is the perfect system for it. It's currently a veritable renaissance for tactics and strategy games (I HIGHLY recommend 'Into The Breach' for anyone who likes the genre), and there are a bunch of upcoming titles as well. It would be silly not to make a Switch Wars.
Ooh Switch Wars! Love it. Also yeah it doesn't have to have the production values of say, the new Fire Emblem, but improved graphics and sounds and lengthy campaign would be amazing. Capcom managed it with Mega Man 11 and it looks and sounds lovely.
As for 'Into The Breach', I was looking at that! That good is it??
