The Alien video games based on the popular sci-fi horror movies of the same name have had many ups and downs over the years. The latest game Alien: Blackout - by FoxNext Games, D3 Go! and Rival Games - arrives on Android and iOS devices on 24th January. It has drawn comparisons to the Five Nights At Freddy's series and requires players to keep a bunch of NPCs alive by monitoring the surrounding environment and guiding them with touch input.
If it was to be released elsewhere later down the line, apparently the first console in consideration would be the Nintendo Switch. DualShockers recently had the chance to speak to FoxNext Games' Vice President TQ Jefferson about the new entry in the Alien video game series. When asked if the title would be ported to the Switch, considering the device has a touchscreen, here's what Jefferson had to say:
“I think Switch is a good one to bring up and we’ve certainly seen many games go from mobile to console or more likely console to mobile. If I had to pick a platform to put it (Alien: Blackout) on, I’d pick Switch.”
The Aliens series doesn't have the best relationship with Nintendo platforms in recent times. The first-person shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines was revealed for the Wii U in 2011 and never saw the light of day. In the same year, WayForward and Sega released Aliens: Infestation on the DS.

This game has been getting so much hate that Im rooting for it. I love the character and that it’s an extension of Isolation. Honestly Aliens 3 was one of my favourite Aliens movies and the whole ending was basically a cat and mouse herding of the Alien and it’s quite tense. They may be able to capture that with a decent set of headphones, I’m imagining that when you mess up you have to watch gory deaths of the crew or even Amanda if you mess up badly.
can't wait to not play it!
Not this game, give us a port of Alien Isolation if anything which was excellent but not this mobile trash
Doesn’t look too bad. Just read an article that says this is a mobile game for people who don’t like mobile games. I’m certainly one of these people, preferring more full-fat products so to speak. Time will tell
Yeah, you can keep your game. I'd rather have a port of a console version.
Alien Blackout is a one-time purchase with no microtransactions ala Mario Run, so I might actually give it a try.
I recently just finished Isolation on the PS4. It probably dragged on too long at the end, but before that it was excellent and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much tension playing a game before. There’s no way a mobile game could ever live up to that.
Shame they’re not talking about porting Isolation to Switch. It released on PS3 (albeit compromised), so technically it would be doable.
A lot of hate but I've been surprised by a bunch of android/mobile games before so I'll reserve judgement.
Besides, it's not the first game series to get a sequel on a totally different platform (final Fantasy 12 and it's Nintendo DS sequel for example)
Switch is the no.1 dumping ground for mobile games. A scary thought indeed.
@westman98 can guarantee it will be £15 when it gets ported over
@Retupmocnin i wish Nintendo would be more selective on what gets approved. And I wish there was a filter to blank out mobile games.
Saying that, you'd never know about Downwell!
Alien Isolation was pretty good. Would be nice to have something like that on a Nintendo once in a while.
I am open to ports. But almost no mobile games are good. I have no reason to assume this will be any different.
@Scottwood101
I think the game is $5 (so probably £4), so it would be pretty scummy if the hypothetical Switch version costs 3-4X more.
I'd probably play the mobile version and skip the Switch version regardless, unless the addition of physical controls actually benefits the game greatly.
Can't wait to play a mobile game on my switch (sarcasm), as if there isn't enough crap in the eShop already
Nintendo fans should be thankful they were spared Colonial Marines.
Other console users would immediately compare it to Isolation and the fact it's a mobile port would be far more evident.

Here are some translations of this text
Nintendolife = Switch Release Would Take Priority If Mobile Game Alien: Blackout Ever Gets Ported To Consoles
Mine = If there's enough money in it then we'll do it!
Sorry but I call that click bait!
@dew12333 ....How is it clickbait to you? The dev says that he’d pick Switch for a port out of others. There’s no translation needed, it’s all right there.
@MagnaRoader DS sequel? Refresh my memory as I would probably call it a spin off and not a sequel.
@Spoony_Tech Final Fantasy 12 revenant wings is a full on sequel. Look it up if you don't believe me. I still own the card and have beaten it a couple of times and the story is pretty much a few years after the original.
@MagnaRoader I played and beat that as well but I don't remember it being a direct sequel. Too many games jumbled up in my head lol.
@Spoony_Tech no probs Mr. Spoony Bard Techman, its kind of a hidden gem sequel that sadly got swept under the rugs for some reason. Really needs a modern console remaster (or a switch remake!)
Haven't play an Alien game since the Arcade, Super NES, Genesis, and Jaguar days so if they do bring this over I might check it out.
Well that’s cool. Arena of Valor had an improvement to their graphics going from mobile to Switch. This would be great. There will be a mainline sequel as well. The Switch will probably get both!!
Infestation was amazing. I was so ticked off about Aliens: Colonial Marines not launching on Wii U. I need a good Alien game in my Switch. Maybe Capcom could throw us a bone with the ol’ Alien VS Predator beat’em up arcade. One can dream.
@Audiobrainiac I like how you think. Infestation was definitely a gem. I bought it brand new a few years ago, in the package for 10 dollars
Well, yeah, I mean, if there's a communal dumpster for mobile ports, why not use it?
