Ghost Town Games has already enjoyed success on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with Overcooked, and its multiplayer cooking title was confirmed for Switch some time ago.
There's plenty of scope for excitement with this indie release - it was nominated in four categories at the 2017 British Academy Games Awards - and according to the two-man team behind it, the Switch version could end up being the best.
Speaking to Red Bull Games, Ghost Town's co-founder Phil Duncan explains why Nintendo's machine is such an ideal platform for Overcooked:
I think the main attraction is the design of the console, the fact that the hardware lends itself so readily to local multiplayer. I love the fact that everyone who owns a Nintendo Switch will have access to two Joy-Con controllers right out of the box. That’s so encouraging, especially given our love of local multiplayer games.
The original release of Overcooked has a ‘split-controller’ mode which allows two players to play together using a single controller. What’s great about the Switch is that we are able to leverage that functionality by allowing players to divide the Joy-Con controllers between themselves. We’re extremely fortunate in that respect.
I also love the fact that the console is bringing gaming out of the living room. I’m so excited whenever I see someone with their Switch on the train or in a café. My favourite aspect of the Switch is definitely being able to pack up my console and take it with me wherever I go. I love being able to play Zelda on the train or Mario Kart at the airport and we’re really, really excited for people to do the same with Overcooked.
Duncan also reconfirmed to Red Bull that the Switch version will include ‘The Lost Morsel’ DLC and the Christmas-themed ‘The Festive Seasoning’. He also stated that the Nintendo version will benefit from HD Rumble support for additional feedback during play.

I'm looking forward to getting this on the switch!
I have the PS4 Physical version, but I want to double dip again for Switch version. Would be better if released in Physical too for Switch version. Price doesn't really matter for me as long I can get the Physical form.
No idea if this game is for me or not. Wait for the review, I guess.
I'm actually quite excited for this game.
It looks like a lot of fun.
It's basic controls if using a Joy-Con each and huddled round a 6 inch screen. That's not very comfortable or practical for a lot of games in both regards. Take ARMS for example, you need another set of Joy-Cons for multiplayer and it's split-screen multiplayer is vertical not horizontal which is very awkward according to IGN as you've a very limited view of incoming punches, especially arched punches.
WhEn Is ThE rElEaSe DaTe?!?!?!?!
This game is pure fun and needs to come to the Switch ASAP so I can get my hands on it! I'll hope for a physical release but I'll take what I can get. This game definitely deserves my money I think.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Joy Con controllers are way more comfortable than what you think they are. Time to buy a Switch console and practise. It may change you to a positive man / woman.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You're entitled to your opinion, but at least get your facts right. Arms can be played with just one joy-con each. You only need another set if you both want to use motion controls.
I love the concept of this game. Looks like a lot of fun particularly in small parties where you just want some dumb, frenetic fun. And the portable nature of the Switch is a great fit for something like that.
I just might pick this up. I hope they release a physical edition!
@Cherkov Yes I know you can play with just one Joy-Con but it's complete crap. Anyway, I was just using that as one example. Another, SF2, are both players going to use a Joy-Con each to play that game?
@SLIGEACH_FIRE
I don't happen to think it is. I played the demo with motion controls, and then split my controllers to play multiplayer with my brother for a few sessions. I actually preferred it over motion, but everyone is well to their own opinions of course.
As for this particular game, I would love to support them. I love local multiplayer affairs so I'm sure I will get some good fun out of the purchase. (:
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Ultra SF II can be played with Separated Joy Cons. Do you mind ??
I can't wait for this and Towerfall Ascension. Any idea when will they be released?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE ARMS with one Joy Con is perfectly fine.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Like I said, just get the facts right. You don't like using a single joy-con. That's fine. Other people do, and that is an option while you stated it wasn't.
And as far as Street Fighter II goes, my friends and I loved playing it on the SNES and that used a similar setup minus the d-pad. So, yeah. People will enjoy playing with just a single joy-con each. Some won't. It's still an option.
@Damo Quote from EDGE Magazine, via yourselves:
"Punches can be thrown using the triggers, or two of the face buttons – jump and dash are mapped on to the other two. You click the left stick to guard. Everything you need is here, and it works – but something’s missing. Since the left stick controls the angle of your punches, you can’t move in one direction and punch in the other. You can’t strike at a different angle with your other hand until the first punch is fully extended, either."

Sounds compromised.
@Cherkov Yes I should have said to play it properly. And regarding SF2, you make it sound like not having a D pad is no big deal, it is. There's another thing too, I've large hands and holding a Joy-Con sideways is uncomfortable, especially for any length of considerable time, it's very cramped.
This game is spectacular, highly recommend it. I may double dip as well. Fair warning tho, this game can compromise friendships/relationships lol!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE No. You should have said for you to play it properly.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE so you have a switch then? Using a single JoyCon is a nice option and works great for short impromptu gaming, exactly what it was designed for . Except of course when you don't have a switch. Then you have no option, which is rather unfortunate
@JaxonH old school and fun as hell! Similar to that Diner Dash game from way back on the DS.
I have overcooked on Xbox and PS4 as well. Again fun arcade style action!
This is the only game coming this year that I'm looking forward to getting for the Switch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don't need a quote from EDGE magazine - I reviewed the game on here
Day 1 for me! ..can't wait to channel my inner Gordon Ramsey!
Have this on Xbox One and will buy it again, excellent game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You're wrong. I played the Test Punch split screen and it works absolutely fine. The game also works fine with a single joycon. You only need both if you want to use the motion controls (which are vague anyway, so I stick to real controls).
Really looking forward to this. One of them games the switch is perfectly suited to.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I like how you believe that quote, and completely disregard what @Damo is saying haha.
@Nintendoforlife I'm not completely disregarding his opinion. Just pointing out something that is fact about the controls from another publication/site. Ya the controls "work" but it doesn't sound ideal. And just like on this topic, everyone has a different opinion.
One thing won't change though regardless of the game and how simple or crammed the controls are on a single Joy-Con. Holding it sideways for someone like me is awkward and possibly cramp inducing.
Time to beat those last 200cc cups to go full ARMS next friday.
I hope we get a release date at the direct tuesday for this, i'm interested in picking it up.
Own it on pc, can't wait to double dip for Switch. This game is super fun with friends. Plus, it has loads of charm, perfect for a Nintendo console!
Will be a day one for me. Love it on my PS4 but will be able to play with friends a lot easier on Switch. Can't wait.
@Damo Hey I don't know if it has been reported but Blasphemous is officially coming to Switch.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/828401966/blasphemous-dark-and-brutal-2d-non-linear-platform/posts/1905776
I haven't buy this on PS4 because I also think the Switch is perfect for this so I'm patiently waiting to dig in and play this with my love one.
Overcooked was amazing on the Xbox One. Played it with my brother and we had a blast. We even got all the achievements and beat every level with the best rank possible. If you are playing with only two people it's best if each person has a set job like one does most of the prep while the other does most of the cooking and adjust when needed. Some levels will rearrange themselves periodically for added difficulty. Great communication is key.
