i would think that if you were to switch off the gore, killing, swearing, and all the other bits that give it the rating it got, there wouldn't be much of a game left to play, lol

I don't see the need for the gore and swearing in the first place.

Do the Mario!

Because that's real life? That's how war really is, we can't censor it. Gore, profanity, and sexuality have there places in games.

Send me the best you've got. Send me your strongest machines. The fight my brother fought, here, now, will end with me.

Or wait until he is old enough to play as guided by the classifications.

In some cases that's not nessicary. If the player is mature enough to handle the content they have been given and they know that video games are strictly fantasy and understand they shouldn't do things they see in video games then they'll be fine. However, this is not one of those cases where it would not be okay to hand your son Call of Duty. I would say the age where the points I made above really kick in is around 13+.

I bet you'd change your tune if the reason the game was rated for adults was because of high level sexual content.

A 13 year old should not be seeing explicit violence, fantasy or otherwise.

If people want to know what war really is like they can enlist in the army.

Your argument is weak. I guess people can't have experiences in movies, games, or other entertainment. So if I want to know what space is like I have to join NASA? Games are a form of entertainment, and a way to experience things we normally wouldn't experience otherwise.

agreed. just like books, TV, and movies, games can also give you a taste of things you haven't done before or won't be able to experience in our lifetime. they're no substitute for the real thing, but there's nothing wrong with devs attempting to give as realistic an experience as possible.

that said, the OP has his answer, and a suggestion for a game that is appropriate for his 6-year-old, so it's time to put this one to bed. :3
