i know it's an 18. I am 42 but my son, who is 6, also wants to play and my wife (39) is kicking off about it already (not got it yet - it come tomorow, I hope)

can i turn off the blood etc ?

if i cant turn off the swearing where does the swearing happen ? is it in the game or only in the video bits ?

Honestly, I think you should pay attention to the age ratings. They're in place for a reason. Whether or not you can turn off the blood and swearing, there's content in the game that you probably wouldn't want your 6 year old to see anyway.

You certainly can't turn off the assassinations or the political ideals.

This game is simply not suitable for kids.

i would think that if you were to switch off the gore, killing, swearing, and all the other bits that give it the rating it got, there wouldn't be much of a game left to play, lol

It's better than Black Ops, but there's still some violence. I'd recommend something like Metroid Prime 3

Again, try to stick to the appropriate rating for you child. Those ratings are there for a reason, use them.

@tobyho If your Wii is connected to the internet, I would recommend Water Warfare. It's basically an FPS with squirt guns instead of real ones. You have to download it, but it's only $8.

Usually I would say that it all depends on the mental maturity of your son, but seeing as he's 6, Tell him to wait a few years for Modern Warfare 4.

Call of Duty 39 Reflex Prestige Edition will be out by the time he's a teenager so he's not missing much in terms of content.

I'm going to be the broken the record here but this game is not suitable for your son, you should know better to expose him to such violence at an early age. COD is fine for you as an adult, but shooting people is not be taken lightly for the impressionable mind of a 6 year old. Hand him Mario, Kirby, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Zelda even Metroid...you know games suitable for his age group.

But games holding this kind of mature content are rated for a reason, no 6 year old should be playing a FPS.

Or wait until he is old enough to play as guided by the classifications.

Goldeneye is nowhere near as bad, the violence is subdued and I don't think there's (any?) much swearing. You could also play the local multiplayer then. It might still be a bit much though.

Water Warfare is a fun game though!

In some cases that's not nessicary. If the player is mature enough to handle the content they have been given and they know that video games are strictly fantasy and understand they shouldn't do things they see in video games then they'll be fine. However, this is not one of those cases where it would not be okay to hand your son Call of Duty. I would say the age where the points I made above really kick in is around 13+.
