Topic: Skylanders Trap Team - Blank screen on startup

I bought a second hand skylanders trap team game today and when I boot it up in the wii u i'm instantly met with a black screen. It recognises the game in the start menu but this only happens when it boots the game. When it boots and i'm met with the black screen I hear the system makes less noise like it has stopped processing the disc.
There are a few scratches on the disc which is the concerning matter, none too big though and none too many however I can't find anyone else having this problem. I've tried reformatting my system and doing updates and neither solution has worked for me.
