Now that Monolith is with Big N I've been wondering what will come out of them next. And I was happy to see them working on the game X which looks fantastic. However, I really want them to work on a sequel game to Baten Kaitos which was on Gamecube. I loved Origins and Lost Ocean and I thought that the gamepad would be a perfect place for the gameplay mechanics. All of the action on screen while on the gamepad you could use the card system with just a touch of the screen. I really do love this series and hope to see a third one.

Anyone feel the same way?

It boggles my mind, with how enormously popular card collecting games are in Japan, and here in the west amongst ( non-video ) gamers, that we haven't returned to this beautiful series. And the very play mechanics that supposedly turn people off ( card based weapons, items, and equipment ) are featured prominently these days in games like 'Pathfinder Adventure Card Game', 'Mage Knight', and a slew of others. In fact, it's almost a standard now.

This seems like an untapped genre as far as video games go. If video gamers caught up with tabletop gamers in their love of such games, Baten Kaitos would be a gold mine for Nintendo.

I can imagine an online mode, with a customizable character. Quests, like in Monster Hunter, that would net you new card components, crafting components into new cards, or battling other players. Winning or losing cards, or purchasing cards as DLC. There were already over a thousand cards, the variety could add uniqueness to online play, especially if they added say, a thousand more!

The world and it's characters are too magical to leave behind, full of wonder, strangeness, heart. And I for one, loved the gameplay, especially in Origins. The cards made fights intense.

Well, come what may, I too still have the original games. I think all this talk is going to make me dive back in.

Speaking of similar games, I still have PSO ep. 3, and I can't tell you how much I miss playing that one online with my friends. It's probably my most favorite card based video game.
