Topic: Games missing in Wii Mode vs. Wii

Hi,

This problem was previously brought up here by another user

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/virtual_console/100s_of_ga...

but that thread was locked — I wonder if anyone else has had this issue (and resolved it?)

When I access the VC shop from my old Wii I can see all the games — e.g. all 9 of Square Enix's VC games. BUT when I access the VC shop from my Wii U (via Wii Mode) most of the games are missing — e.g. there is only 1 Square Enix title.

You can see screenshots here

I wanted to introduce my son to Chrono Trigger and FF6 after his infatuation with Earthbound via Wii U VC. But this issue is making that tricky...

Cheers,

Sam

Got an answer to this from Nintendo, seems very strange to me...

"The reason you don't see certain Wii Shop games on the Wii mode of your Wii U console as opposed to the games you see on a standard Wii console is because of compatibility issues with these particular games and the Wii U console. It is still possible to do a Wii to Wii U transfer of these games but it won't be possible to download these games from the Wii U console."

Funny no one else has noticed this?

It also seems to be nonsense. Lost Winds for example the reason was they were thinking of making a Wii U version so they denied transfer.

I wish they would have told us this could happen before I transferred everything to the Wii U Wii mode.

So if I've already transferred a bunch of stuff over the first time, can I buy something new on my old Wii and then transfer it and not lose the old stuff?

Yeah, this is weird. I literally only see Final Fantasy 1. Me (and the person in that other thread) seem to have been singled out...

DLC will be merged, not overwritten. So you can do the transfer again.

Only duplicate saves will be overwritten. So if you've started a new save on your Wii for say, Mario Kart Wii, and then do the system transfer, it will erase your old save that you had previously transferred over to your Wii U with the one that you're now transferring.

@mrsambarlow Out of interest what model Wii U do you have?

Looks like the previous thread suffered from the attitude "I don't have that problem therefore you can't have it either" which seems to be quite prevalent in this site's community from my experience.

Would also be good if mods took this as a lesson not to lock threads so quickly.

I've got a white Basic model from the very first batch — bought it on launch. I've attached an external hard-drive to it, other than that it's normal.

I had a second email from Nintendo support saying this was was design and implying it was true for all users. Is this just a UK thing?

Actually, in that exact same thread you referenced, I proved that that the NA Wii Shops are identical across the Wii and Wii U. That's why the thread was locked.

This isn't an issue in North America.

@mrsambarlow I can confirm it isn't a UK thing, I live in the UK and just checked my Wii U's Wii mode, there are 9 Square Enix titles. Sounds like Nintendo is spinning you a line or they've misdiagnosed your problem. I do have the 32 GB black Wii U (launch like you) however so that is a difference between us.

I've got the same problem, I'm in the UK, white 8gb Party U bundle machine... after doing a Wii to Wii U system transfer only 14 N64 games show up on my Wii U's Wii mode VC store making it a tiny bit difficult to re-download my purchases, on my real Wii's store all 21 N64 games show, also a shed load of my WiiWare purchases along with loads of other VC purchases are missing from my "Items you've downloaded" list, it used to be 9 pages in length... now it's only 3 but I have found a solution, to get back the games I paid for at least: on the account activity pages all your purchases show including the missing games and if you click on the title of the game it takes you to the download screen.

I had this problem too. The reason not all games are shown is Parental control! All users on the console have the same settings for wii mode. Press x while in settings for parental control in wii u mode to get to the wii settings. This has been very frustrating, tried google but found nothing. Also a bit confusing that you have to set it i wii u mode(where it is well hidden)
