Topic: FFVII, Chrono Trigger, or Earthbound?

I think these three are widely believed to be the best RPGs of all time. (I'm not saying they are, or that everyone believes that, but it seems to be the popular opinion of most that one of the three is the best RPG ever. If there is another RPG that I've forgotten, tell me and I'll list it up there. I might have listed FFIV, VI, VIII, and X, but VII is by far the most popular of the lot.

Anyway, I think FFVII is the best of the three, and personally I think it's the best RPG ever made. I made it all the way to the last boss of Chrono Trigger, but never finished it. It was a great game, but I HATE when games have that "478 different forms of the boss" ending, and I ended up shutting it off because I got tired of it. I played a little bit of Earthbound, but never really got into it. I'd like to try it again, but it just didn't excite me when I played it.

well, i have played both earthbound and mother 3 and really liked them, chronno really didnt atract me because is way to big, so i´ll go with earthbound

Everyone on this site seems to love Earthbound, and I trust the people on this site as far as opinions go, for the most part. Besides, Opoona is often compared to Earthbound, so I really want to try playing it again. But good luck to me finding it for less than 70 bucks. I really don't want to emulate it; it just doesn't feel right to me. I don't even like getting VC games if I can help it. Only if it's a really expensive release. Wow. I'm getting way off-topic in my own thread. Anyway...

I recently started playing FFVII for the first time and it really isent liveing up to the hype. Yeah it's good and i'v yet to have anything really bad to say about it but it just doesent seem deseving the surounding hype.

To tell you the truth, I hate all Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, AND Earthbound games...I prefer Dragon Quest games myself.....but, if I HAD to choose one, I would choose Chrono Trigger

Never played Earthbound, but the moments and memories I have with Final Fantasy 7 are priceless, got it on Christmas 1997 I fell asleep with the controller in hand that night and many nights thereafter. Have replayed this game many times since then.

Incidentally Chrono Trigger is my second favorite although didn't play this until it came out for the DS. But still it amazed me how a game that old could have such an impact so many years after without a single feeling of nostalgia(since I never played it back in the Snes days.)

Chrono Trigger and FF VII are tied in my book if I had to pick of the three. I played Earthbound and thought it was so completely overrated in every facet.
SSBbrawler makes a good point, though...The Dragon Warrior/Quest series is great as well.

@Firkraag, I understand what you mean. I didn't play Chrono Trigger until about a year ago,(though not on DS) and I got pretty into it, but then I just quit once the end of the game started to drag on too long. I used to LOATHE Final Fantasy until a few years ago, when I played FFVII, and decided it was amazing. In general, people on NL seem to love Earthbound, but I never saw the appeal

It's AMAZING because it has puns and pop culture references! it's like the video game version of Kevin Smith movies but only in a less funny fashion.

Well, considering Chrono Trigger is the only RPG of the three you brought up that I have played; then, I'd have to safely say Chrono Trigger. It's a great RPG, with so many endings possible it's not even funny.

The only one I played out of that list was Chrono Trigger, one of the best (if not THE best) RPGs I've ever played, So I'll go with that.

As for FFVII, I've wanted to play that game since forever, and plan to order it from an online shop at some point (never found it at a store). I'll emulate Earthbound, but given the videos of the combat I've seen online, I have my doubts about it.

Yeah, but he said he's looking for it online, or in stores, and it'll be tough to find it for less, especially if you want black-label

I didn't like VII so much. One reason is the villain is a pretty boy who is overrated (and he's a momma's boy to boot). Don't get me wrong, though; that's not the only reason I didn't like it. I really think that Earthbound is the best out the three.
