Topic: Eliminate your Backlog!

I was reading an article the other day, and in the comments someone was saying that they use excel to choose what game in their backlog they should tackle next, but that it doesn't work very well. That got me thinking that I could build an app that does it better, and here it is! I just call it the backlog eliminator. Heres how it works;

  • Extract the application and the text file into the same directory
  • Write what games are in your backlog line by line just as the example text is written
  • Save and close the text file, then load up the application. Hit "What should I play?" and theres your game!

Its nothing fancy, but thought I'd share! If you like it, throw me a tip at ko-fi.com/divinebovine

@shaneoh Neat! I know other websites have done similar or better, this is just a personal fun project

I don't have a backlog because I can't decide what to play. lol. I have a backlog because I buy more games than I have time to play them.

Indecision isn't really a factor for my backlog. It's just that the games I know I want to play come out faster than I can play through them.

my problem is that i get so many games for free. sometimes games that i always wanted to play and other times games that i would probably never thought about buying and playing.

Same here and everywhere else. And my particular problem is aggravated by the fact that whenever I want to tackle some pending games, I end up playing RPGs, which take a lot of time as you guys know. Why can't I just stick to let's say a list of 10 NES games to finish within a year? Why do I buy classic games collections if I end up playing 60-100 hour modern ones?

This. It doesn't help that I also gravitate towards RPGs, many of which can be quite long. I've had to become way pickier than I used to be.

There's also the fact that I haven't had much time to game traditionally lately.

Heh, my backlog is currently building up but it's for the same reasons as everyone else here .... There's not as many games coming in December & early next year, though, so I should be able to get caught up eventually

Do people really need a randomizer to pick their games for them?

Why play games at all if you don't feel a desire to play something (which should guide your choice of what games to play)?

I don't get it.

Anyway, I have my own "backlog eliminator." It's a two step method. Y'all ready for this?
1) Play games.
2) Buy fewer games in a year than you play.

That's 100% guaranteed to solve your backlog issue.
