Topic: What operating system updates would you like to see?

I love that we got folders, I use them all the time.

What other features would you like to see?

One I would love to have but I know will never come is to have a tate mode for the os itself. A huge percentage of my games are played in tate mode and it would be cool if I could flip the os around for that. I often play a few in one sitting and it means the home screen is at 90° when I come out of a game.

Nintendo already has a proprietary O/S for Switch. Switch doesn't need bloatware aka WinOS and MacOS or LinuxOS. This is purely a gaming portable console why would they use bloatware O/S that not made purely for just a gaming console that is purely gaming on the go to make the system concentrated for Switch. A more icon concentrated setup would look good but too much customization would increase the price and bloatware.

Honestly? I'm happy with the OS as it is. The whole concept of the console is to remove the barriers between the player and the game. And I think the OS is successful in that.

While I loved how my 3DS was customised...it was so slow! And I had a new 3DS XL, and minimal badges. Not even a ridiculous amount of digital games. It was bad.
I've had my Switch since late 2017 and it's as snappy as ever. Maybe they could work on some online features? But I'm an antisocial gamer and not too fussed about that.

I basically just want slightly more powers to manage my games:

An ability to search your games. This already exists, but you have to do it indirectly via folders which is silly.

sortable wishlist and also not a cap of 389 games. And also the ability to remove something from wishlist within the eShop menu.

tags. I doubt they will add these, but it would be neat to tag a game as multiplayer, platformer, favorite game, etc. and then look at all the games in a particular tag. I do this indirectly via folders now but it is a nuisance to keep track of what games are in what folders.

game notes - it would be nice to have a little note section we could have for each game. And have both the notes and folders in the cloud attached to your account, not just local on Switch. And let us see all that via the Nintendo mobile app.

@FishyS I use deku deals for my sorting needs but would prefer it built into the os.

Options to update or change your Backgrounds / skins / screensavers etc... elements to 'personalise' your switch setup. Not even necessarily the ability to upload your own photos (which would be cool) but even a selectin of preset backgrounds/wallpapers would be welcome

I'd appreciate themes or other customisation options on the home menu. It can be optional if it makes the console slower to load, but I love how the 3DS (and Wii to a lesser extent) is fun just to mess about with on the menu; the Switch is so lifeless in comparison.

You can have games in multiple folders but unlike tags you can't select that game to see what folders it's in. So you basically have to remember. Not a huge thing, but it would be convenient. I'm basically using folders as poor-man's tags and poor-man's rating system and even poor-man's notes.

@Stamina_Wheel I would love an exact playtime in general (up to the half hour, able to see it without opening the game first/recently).

Themes! I miss the ones from the 3DS, the Switch menu feels soulless with just a light or dark screen in the background

The option to get a notification when a game on your wishlist goes on sale. It's ridiculous they don't have that option when Steam and other such online stores have had it for years and years. So now you have rely on a third-party site, Deku Deals, for that service, but it would be so much more convenient if it'd work on the Switch itself.

Good point. Tbh, I was a bit non-plussed by all the clamour for folders: it's quite an outmoded way of organising files.

I just want more backgrounds. I probably wouldn’t mind except that, ya know, the current themes are called basic black and basic white

Honestly a lot of those things need to be part of an improved mobile app rather than the console OS itself.

Also the eShop could do with a lot of work. Even just a star rating system for games like they had on Wii U/3DS would be an improvement
