Topic: targeting players?

Has anyone else been targeted by other players in Splatoon 2, or is it just me for some reason? I'm not even the best player & I can't figure out what the point of them doing this to anyone nor do I know any of them.

Several times I've played & several different people seem to look for me just to kill. I've seen them pass others on my team just to kill me. A few times I've even been standing next to someone on my team when this same person would come & ignore the other players, & kills only me.

Not them. Me.

They will kill me, then leaves & waits for me to kill again.

And again.

And again.

I try to in another direction, only for them to somehow be there, too, to kill me.

I try to super jump to someone, only for them to somehow find me & kill me.

I watch them to see if they kill anyone else, but I never do. I actually would hardly ever see the others get killed by anyone.

It's different people on each round when it happens, but always the same person who will kill me over & over.

I, personally, don't see the point of someone doing this to anyone. It's gotten so bad of people doing this to me that I've quit playing. Is there some way to report these people?

@PrincessPumpkin If I was playing and had the level of skill to make me confident in identifying who was who and found someone who was an easy hit, I would probably target them too. Just try improving your defensive game so you're not such an easy target. Move with team mates rather than going off on your own. And remember, there's only 3 other players they can possibly go for.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

It could just be the case you’re not very good hence why you die repeatedly. I take it you’re playing casual and ranked where you get matched with random people so it’s unlikely people are looking for you to splat specifically.

My advice would to not take it to heart as it’s just a game and then get gud.

If you're not posing much of a threat to the opposing players, then of course they will come after you. It's an extremely easy way to boost their online ranking for minimal effort. I played Fortnite very briefly, but was also put off by being targeted relentlessly. At least if there was an offline mode to ease one in to the mechanics of the game, but, nope, sprayed with bullets as soon as I'm spotted. It didn't seem like a particularly fun game either (I am baffled by its success), and I deleted it shortly after.

I generally avoid online gaming as I find that the odds are generally stacked against me, and I'm not willing to pour in hundreds of hours just so I can best the sorts of obsessive players who do nothing else with their time. That and being subjected to indignant puerility. I get enough of that in comments sections and in "real life".

@PrincessPumpkin Sometimes there are some highly skilled players that are super brutal. Just brutal. Load up on Ink Saver(sub), and spam auto bombs. Or leave that lobby.

I find that splatoon can be really unbalanced with higher level players able to absolutely dominate to the pont its just not fun.
I used to be in a Destiny Trials clan and that was nowhere near as sweaty as some Splatoon lobbies - especially during the splat fests.

That's my experience to a 'T'. Both Splatoon and Smash have been mostly unpleasant for me online. I feel like back when those series' were on the Wii U the online play wasn't as abrasively competitive.

I think with Splatoon sometimes it might be influenced by your load out. You might be carrying a weapon that suggests you are an offensive player - in which case the wolves on the other side identify you as a threat to them.

You might also be moving ahead of your team-mates too quickly. Remember - the game is about territory control. You get just as many points for painting an area near your base as near to your opponents base. If you stay on your teams side of the field it's harder for your opponents to get to you - they have to cut a line through your colour of ink which slows them down. As you get more used to the game you can start to become more aggressive.

Regardless however - I've not played much Splatoon 2 online since 2017 (not even opened it since 2018!). I personally have some issues with online competitive gaming - it's just not always a nice environment.

I don't know about Splatoon cause I never played it but when I play Call of Duty it can seem that way at times. It's not necessarily people targeting you it may just seem that way because the lobby you got in. I get into some lobbies where it seems I am dieing all the time to other players and being targeted by them when in truth you are just getting into a lobby where the other players are better then you. They probably play the game on a more regular basis.

I am not sure what kind of SBMM Splatoon has but your lobbies should vary depending on how you do. In some lobbies in CoD I may die like 20 times or more then another lobby I am getting the 20+ kills.

Also it depends on the map as well. Again not sure how many maps Splatoon has but some maps in Call of Duty people know where to look for other players and know where the power points are so they keep a close on those points and get anyone who goes into that area.

So it's probably one of all of those factors that make you feel like your being targeted which you more then likely not.
