Anyone know what this might be? Doesn't quite sound like a fan knocking when I put my ear right up to it and no vibration. But maybe someone else knows better. Don't want to start stripping it down just yet.
With your analog stick constantly re-imputing either left, up, or down.

@Magician I think you're right, just swapped my joycons with my old switch and cured it. Can this be repaired? It's my Animal Crossing joycons in the nice mint colour. I'd hate to lose use of these or put new guts in them and lose the colour recognition in the pairing.
@Starbase804 There are more than a few suggestions for self-repairing on the YouTubes. But if you live in North America, I think Nintendo still offers free repairs. Maybe? Not sure. I gave up on joy-cons a while ago after going through five sets in less than three years.

@Magician Annoying thing is I've NEVER used them. I always play in docked mode wish a pro controller. Just switched on the other day and home screen was making that clicking sound.
@Starbase804 I don't think it's stick drift. In your first video you have Stardew Valley highlighted, so if it was registering an input on the sticks it would either scroll your list of games along or move to the icons above or below.
I think what's actually happening is a button is registering when it shouldn't. Can you go into Settings, then scroll down to Controllers and Sensors, then Test Input Devices and Test Controller Buttons and see if anything is being pressed?
@CinnamonRobin I'll check when I go back downstairs. One thing I noticed was when I go to a page with a keyboard it's flicking between upper and lower case.
Right, so it thinks the left stick is constantly being clicked in. If you have a way of cleaning underneath the stick, like with compressed air or something, then that might be worth a try. Otherwise it'll probably need replacing.
@Starbase804 WD40 Electrical Contact cleaner has revived quite a few of my Joy-cons in the past - great cure for stick drift especially, but I haven't had the same issue you appear to be having.
@dmcc0 it's in the hands of UPS now. It's super frustrating as they've never been used. Well, slight lie. Used them to set up the switch and add the pro controller. Then it's sat in the dock for over 3 years.
@CinnamonRobin seems like it's the joystick. Just constantly shows the L across the screen when running the test.
Well, there's L Stick and L button. Maybe making this point doesn't matter. (forgive me if making this point doesn't matter.)
Also, disregard if you've already done these already. I didn't see them mentioned yet. The following two things are common first steps for most console and controller troubleshooting.
Make sure your joycons are updated.
Do a hard reboot = hold power button down for 20 seconds - it forces a more thorough reboot of the console.
@WoomyNNYes it showed the L with a circle around it. When I pressed the other buttons they appeared in between the constant line of updating L across the screen.
