RXN Raijin (USA) (a/k/a RXN Raixin in JPN) is a NEW shmup for the Switch. It's been out for awhile, but the $38 price tag turned a lot of people off, particularly with the flood of Hamster Neo-Geo shmups released for a fraction of that price. RXN has finally had a severe price decrease (at least in the JPN eShop), so I suspect more of us might start playing it. The full screen use, the music (OST being released soon apparently), the graphics and action are certainly enticing, with the boss-rush style gameplay (read: short intense battles) being a potential drawback.

RXN has no instructions and there are not any walkthroughs on YouTube, so the game is a bit of a mystery in terms of strategy. There are 3 ships to choose from, each with their own weapons. The first ship has an awesome spread cannon and its main, which is great for clearing out lots of enemies, and the other ship piloted by a male has a powerful direct beam and homing bombs, which appear to come in handy in boss battles. The Level 22A boss was a real stopping point for me. I could not beat him with the first ship even after leveling up to the max of 99. I finally beat it with a 45-level ship (piloted by the second male). And what is the niche of the girl-piloted ship?

There is a power-up system for all ships, but it is totally unclear what each attribute is. For instance, light and dark attributes? Might they correspond to the fact that the bosses appear to flicker between color and dark?

There are also at least 2 levels that you can absolutely mine attribute power-ups. One of them is Level 15A, where bots fly at your ship from all directions. A great sense of achievement to level up enough and get enough skills/anticipation to do a no-hit run (and earn a hidden point bonus for doing so).

I have all of these questions and yet have less than 10 levels to clear to finish. Does RXN stand for enigma?

Anyway, there is so little information about this game that I thought it would be beneficial to exchange info, observations and strategies here.

Considering this game was removed from the European eShop like a week after release and remains as such (don’t know about NA or other regions) you may have trouble finding other players.

Interesting. It is available in the NOA eShop, but for $38, which remains really steep. Too bad about the non-availability in Europe and the high NOA price, because it is a great little game (and I would love to decode stuff about it with other shmup fans).
