i don't understand. isn't it just plastic with no real electronics.
i only want one for downstairs (the switch is kept in an upper smaller spare room) as me partner has bought a ringfit and neither of us can be bothered to keep plugging and unplugging it in.

The Switch dock does actually have some internals, a circuit board that's used to toggle the Switch system into docked mode and facilitate video output, USB ports, and LAN connectivity (exclusively on OLED model docks).

The difference between the two here is that the mini lacks a USB port (for connecting accessories to the docked Switch system), and that model 2 supports up to 4k60 video, as they can also be used as general purpose Thunderbolt docks and chargers for compatible smart phones and laptops.
