waste of money! wanna play on TV...nope! wanna switch (pun intended) out joy cons...nope! wanna play with second player using extra controller...nope! even smaller screen and more cramped hands...yup! so wont be getting this wish they put time into getting us a switch PRO !
"Upwind of you, for preference, vermin. ... Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence."
The more I think about this, the more okay I am with it. If it were $150 dollars. Since it has half the functionality of the Switch, it should cost half the price. And I am being generous here, since the lack of changeable joycons and lack of a table-top mode means it's actually less than half the functionality of the base model.
If I were them, I'd call this the Neo-Game Boy and have announced it on the anniversary of the Game Boy that we just had. Because this is not a Nintendo Switch. It is a new Game Boy that plays Switch games.

Hopefully they got that Joycon drift figured out for this. Annoying on OG Switch for sure, but a literal game ender when you have to send back the entire system to get it fixed.
@Heavyarms55 Game Boy and Switch are just brand names. Calling a Switch revision a "Game Boy" would be a marketing disaster and would confuse the hell out of a lot of people.
@Cotillion Yeah, that's the one big concern I have. I imagine people will do a breakdown of the Lite when it releases to tell us whether the hardware is as likely to develop drifting issues.
Switch Lite is a good name. It is a lot lighter and it's light in features. I hope that the sticks are better quality but overall it's better designed than Switch in my opinion, considering that the original model has a bad kickstand, lacks D-pad, has worse battery life as a handheld, lacks power and resolution as a home console and it's expensive.
Switch Mini Very possible although everything said about this at this point is just people speculating. I could easily see them going down this route. Though unlike some others I don't see any reason why such a SKU would need to drop the dock as an option. Maybe they integrate the controllers to keep the size small and don't have the dock in the box to cut the price. But even then it'd makes sense for them to sell dock and controller sets. There's no advantage for Nintendo to make a version of the Switch that can't dock.
Switch Pro
Again very possible. Also I can't see any reason why there wouldn't be a newer revision of Tegra that a future Switch could use. The X1 is not the first nor is it the last version of Tegra. All this talk in this thread of X2 being for cars kinda misses the point. NVidia is constantly releasing newer chips.
Switch Dock ++
Not going to happen in the way you expect. I can see them eventually doing a different version of the dock. Possibly when Nintendo wants to support newer revisions of HDMI or if a future Switch SKU won't fit into the current dock. But the dock itself won't be upgraded much. What you need to understand is that the dock is basically just a dongle. It doesn't really do anything, it basically just expands the Switch's IO. All of the processing is done on the Switch. Putting the current Switch into a theoretical 2020 Switch Dock Pro won't magically make your Switch better.
They could have still included the ability for this to dock. Easily. The decision not to I think is product differentiation more than anything. Even so, this is a very sensible revision. I think there's even a post somewhere where I joked about them releasing a "Switch Lite". Purely because Nintendo would be unable to resist the pun of a "Lite" Switch.
This is a day one purchase for me - but I realize I'm in a different situation than most on these forums.
I am currently without a Switch, and do all of my gaming on the PS4 Pro at the moment.
Seeing a more portable/cheaper version of the Switch has made me realize that it would be a great compliment to my TV gaming. I likely won't play a lot of action games or huge epics on it...but rather the ones that make the most sense on handheld - like Link's Awakening, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, etc...
I think I will go for Turquoise. What about others?
