This morning, I took my Switch out of the dock, which itself was in my travel bag, and noticed that the system was rather hot. I saw a notification that the game card had been removed, and realized that it got so hot that the game card popped out. Thankfully, I had already saved my game (Disgaea 1 Complete).
It probably overheated because it remained on in your bag (as opposed to in sleep mode), not merely because it was charging. I made that mistake once and the console was pretty damn hot when I pulled it out.
@VoidofLight I actually leave it in front of the fan when I finish before charging it. If it’s docked I face the fan towards it. Same worries after seeing images during launch of distorted systems.
@Silly_G Yes, so I am no longer leaving it in the travel bag.
@Severian I usually turn my Switch off fully when I'm done playing it. Helps save battery life that way. I remember seeing a warning like that in my carrying case, it said to not keep your Switch on when you're putting it in. Good thing you saved your game!
@Snatcher I'd advice against leaving electronics under pillows, bed covers, cushions, futons, or other soft hiding spots, since anyone could go sit or canon ball knee-first into them without knowing/remembering there's something expensive under there.
