I just bought this and played a few minutes of each game. I'm really happy with my purchase. Playing Galaga 88 in vertical mode with split Joy-con is absolutely superb. The HD Rumble is really noticeable and brilliantly implemented. It really adds so much to the experience. In fact I'd go as far as saying it's the best use of it yet. Galaga 88 flying the flag for HD Rumble. Splatterhouse is great too, it looks really nice with the border art.
One complaint I have though is it takes ages to load the menu screen, just under 1 minute.,which isn't ideal for a game like this. When you have games like MK8D and FAST RMX loading in less than 10 seconds,it should not be taking that long. Hopefully that will get patched.
Other than that, I have no complaints. It's beautifully presented and has great HD Rumble.I would have loved Pole Position to be on it but never mind. Maybe there'll be a 2nd collection?
If you're on the fence about buying it, I'd say go for it, I doubt you'll regret it.
I bought this game for Splatterhouse and Galaga 88, but after playing a bit of each game I enjoyed a lot Sky Kid too and I am happy with almost every game except Tower of Druaga (it seems to me unbelievably difficult and frustrating, your character is slow as hell and the only thing he can do is shake his sword in front of the enemies who kill him anyway, I can't understand how it is supposed to be fun, maybe I'm doing something wrong) and Pac Man VS.
Overall I am very happy about this collection, it is very fun.
The main menu screen is a little buggy, it has a lot of animation and visual effects over each game cover that are very nice and good looking but makes it lag sometimes and when it happens it don't look that good anymore. I don't mind if it takes a bit to load, but once it does it should run smoother imho.
@LuckyLand Those were exactly my thoughts on Tower of Druaga .I assumed I was doing something wrong too.I'll give it another go because there must be something there for it to have such a cult following.I think better weapons become available so maybe your character's just really puny to begin with.
Did you notice in Splatterhouse when you hit an enemy the HD rumble is different for each weapon? The wooden bat has thud, while the machete is more like a softer sensation,as if it's slicing through flesh.Couldn't think of a better way to describe it haha. It's a really cool addition I think and shows what HD rumble can add to games, especially older ones.Galaga 88's rumble is really cool too, especially between levels when it's supposed to feel like your ships engine. It's most noticeable when playing with split Joy-con I think.
I was playing more Galaga 88 earlier. There's much more to it than what I initially thought.I made it to stage 8 of the first dimension and was really surprised when the level started scrolling and throwing asteroids at me.Did not expect that at all.Brilliant game.I'm 354th in the world just now but the top 50 score is well achievable .At least for now it is.I'm going to play it now
I've got some eShop credit burning a whole in my pocket and one of the games I was considering buying was this Namco collection. However, as I do already have access to many of the featured games via emulation (Mame etc.) the expensive price tag is putting me off. If it was Β£19.99 instead of Β£29.99 I would have bought it already. I try to stick to a self imposed limit of Β£20 approx max for anything digital only.
Anyway, I guess I'm here to see if I should go ahead and pull the trigger or wait for a sale? I do want to support arcade releases on the Switch and have bought several ACA Neo-Geo titles and the Psyko (sp?) titles Strikers 1945 and Gunbarich. I really want these arcade game releases to continue. Just torn on whether this digital only Namco collection really offers value for my cash.
Felt similar about Puyo Puyo Tetris. Big fan of Puzzle Bobble and match-3 type games like Clash of Heroes on Nintendo DS and Puzzle Quest. I think I'd enjoy Sega's puzzle mash-up but Β£34.99 just seems far too expensive for my budget. Again, if it was Β£19.99 I would have snapped it up.
Back to Namco, do these games have save states? Fancy playing Splatterhouse this Halloween but recall sucking at it back on the arcade, lol!
@Lroy Wait for a sale. The price tag is high for what little there is. Unless Namco decide to add games to the collection, which I highly doubt, then best just wait.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. Although the discounts on the eShop so far have hardly been very large. I guess at Β£30, I'm thinking would I rather buy this Namco collection or say 5 more Neo Geo titles?

@Lroy I would imagine the lack of any decent sales so far is due to the fact many games are selling so well. As more games come to the Switch and the library expands further, I can see publishers starting to hold sales in order to try tempt people into buying their games.

Yeah, that's certainly a fair point. If my disposable income was boundless, I wouldn't hesitiate to pick up titles I'm on the fence about due to price: Fire Emblem Warriors, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Namco Museum etc.
Oh well, fingers crossed for a sale. Plenty to play from what I already own on Switch, lol!

Managed to bag this collection late last year for Β£15 during an eShop sale. At that price I'm very happy with NAMCO MUSEUM on Switch. Really appreciate all the customisable audio and visual options. Presentation overall is very good on these games. Even Hamster could learn a thing or two for their otherwise excellent Arcade Archives and ACA Neo Geo releases. Really hope they add more games like XEVIOUS in future NAMCO collections or just as DLC for this one.
