Sorry if this has been done before but I noticed how Minecraft got a big update, and apparently the version that I bought originally (Nintendo Switch Edition) is no longer available and has been replaced by a new version that is simply called Minecraft. I can download the new version for free, but I am wondering if there is any advantages or disadvantages in doing so.
The new version will get updates, you can play online with Xbox one, mobile and windows 10 players, you can pay for private online servers, and among other exusive features, worlds are infinite.
Minecraft for Nintendo Switch will stay as it is. Forever and ever. The noteworthy exclusive is the minigames. Some people do prefer the UI in this version, too.
@Yosheel I don't really care about any of the online and connectivity features, but the infinite worlds sounds nice. Has the performance generally improved in the new version?
It sounds like I might as well just replace my old version if this works like an all around upgrade. I don't really remember the minigames.
Performance seems around the same. though considering the new version has more things going on, it's probably better optimized.
There's really no reason not to upgrade to the new version. However it could be nice having both versions in the same console.
By the way the new version uses a Microsoft account for online multiplayer and other online features, but it's largely optional if you don't care about that.
@Yosheel Yeah I am not a big fan of online gaming so I will probably just leave that part alone. Are the minigames the only benefit to me keeping the old version around?
I believe so. Some people really like those. Never played them myself though...
There's some differences besides that. Like the UI and some options.
Playing with other people in the same map can enhance the experience, even if you don't play together, just knowing someone else is out there building in the same world can be nice.
The massive servers the game includes by default are a trainwreck though, last time I tried playing in one I couldn't move two steps without having someone kill me. That's why I bought a personal realm server instead.
Only thing I'm waiting for is the ability to use your own character skin...apparently they said this will be happening in a future update. I'm just sitting here waiting...lol
I have no idea why I haven't played this game on the Switch, especially since I have surround sound now...I heard the game gets super creepy with surround sound. xD

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I like the fact that you can change from peaceful to full on mob central just from the options menu in game. Wife likes peaceful, but sometimes without her knowing ill switch it over and she'll be in a dungeon and have a creeper just pop up...
@Yosheel - I'd love to join your realm.
Also, I have both versions, but I'm keeping both for their own attributes. I'm looking forward to the servers being added. I'm hoping that happens soon.
Ya know I've been thinking about it, and we can give it a try.
Just keep in mind what I said before, it's a casual realm. We are not super active. It's probably more like playing normal offline Minecraft. The biggest benefit is being able to use the same map across multiple devices (and each realm also comes with a mini social hub we can use to share pictures)
And remember, respect other's builds, and chests are sacred. We could even make a nether hub to visit other bases if we are too far away from each other.
I just need your Xbox live names to invite you. @JayJ yours too if you're still interested.
