Topic: ¿Why does Nintendo hate its own JRPGs like Golden Sun and Mother?

INb4 pokemon and Fire emblem trash..... nintendo killed two great JRPG Series that i think would be awesome in this modern age. They even rub it in our faces and tease the West with Mother 3 will never make it over the oceans and we are stuck playing hacked versions of Mother 3. Shame on you Nintendo.

Why does Nintendo hate its own JRPGSs so much?

Oh man! The Golden Sun games will always hang out near the top of my all time list! I'm really hoping the Switch becomes a console they give all of their IP's a chance on. We're getting Metroid for the first time in forever. Wishful thinking I know, but it's definitely a plan that's working for them so far.

I think they like to create a hunger for their products, NES min classic, Virtual Console, Mother 3, Etc. They just don't seem to have the concept of an appropriate amount of time, haha. I can deal with 5 years between really good games, but 15 is nuts.

im not sure why nintendo doesnt listen to the hardcore base a bit more either, but i have seen them turning a corner on that front recently with various announcements, ie: nes classic rerelease, metroid games, even asking fans about advance wars.
i think good things are happening nowadays, but you are right, mother 3 not being localised is kind of baffling and golden sun deserves an hd reboot on switch

Just because they aren't releasing them doesn't mean they "hate" them. They're a business and "my bros and I love this game; they should put it out and it'll print money" is not a valid market projection. I'd even go so far as to say that Earthbound Beginnings was likely a test to cheaply gauge interest for extended Mother presence, one North America likely failed.

Anyway, I like both franchises way more than I like Pokémon but it's not really a mystery why they haven't bothered. Mario, Zelda, and now Fire Emblem plus Metroid on a good day are what bring in the money and so that's where their focus will be.

But who knows; in spite of the reality of the situation, I still hold out hope Mother 3 will show up randomly in a "Download After This Direct" someday

Nintendo doesn't "hate" their products. Only fanatics attach that sort of unnecessary emotion to things. The mother series was a trilogy and it ended, so not sure why some folks keep demanding 4. The rest is ROI really. Is it worth it on their books to create a new Golden Sun entry? Would folks asking for it be satisfied anyway considering how fickle people are? Some FE and Paper Mario fanatics act like Nintendo murdered their family every time a new entry to either series is created. "They changed it so it sucks, make it the way I want it or it has no worth" is often the rallying cry for that. Not everything needs a sequel into infinity. If they were on mother 14 half the site would be whining about milking the franchise to death. I get wanting to play new entries in a franchise, I'm a big 1080 and wave race fan, but I'm not going to let a lack of new entries sour my enjoyment of the literal thousands of other games out there. No need for hyperbole and meaningless anger.

At the end of the day we don't know what will happen because this is a company trying to make a profit. Perhaps they were testing the waters with earthbound beginnings and earthbound on wiiu vc (after all mother 3 is on the wiiu vc in japan). For all we know the poor sales of that system may have killed any localization plans for mother 3 as they focus on the switch and new entries to that system. Switch still doesn't have VC as of yet and we don't know what they will do with that. It may result in a worldwide release of mother 3 or it might not.

Either way it doesn't mean that there is any level of hatred, merely that they have a much larger IP catalog that generates money and they are going to focus on their ROI and keeping their books in the black and their employees paid. Vocal minorities don't function as good sources of ROI; doesn't mean nothing will happen, but that people need to back up their complaints with purchases. Hopefully every person asking for mother 3 bought both of the previous games on wiiu VC. (likely not...my brother is at least one that whines about it but didn't make the purchases...while I, a person that holds no affinity to the earthbound series have the trilogy on my jpn wiiu as well as the two earthbound games on my NA one. yay impulse buys.)

@World earthbound beginnings was a horrible test as that game is torture to most gamers... Mother3 shoulda been released last year for its 10 year anniversary but Nintendo does stupid things.
Its dumb because wannabe Mother games like that 2D alien game and Undertale are total trash ripoffs yet people rave about them. Id just rather play the hacked version of Mother 3 on my WiiU.

@Ryu_Niiyama dont you tell me to chill out. You must love having less options for JRPGs on Nintendo systems. Thank the gods i have other systems for that flavor of appetite... just would be nice to have a few Nintendo JRPGs for dessert.

The 3DS has like a 2:1 ratio for JRPGs. Like, a new one is released every other week.

And what less options?The two options you gave were one trilogy that ended years ago and one other series that sorta cliffhanger-ed. I don't think that decimated the game catalog of JRPGs anywhere. I have a backlog that I could stop buying new games and I'd still have still have something new to play until I'm 80.

Nintendo made fun of everyone in that skit including themselves, although it sounds like you missed it while you were busy clutching your jockstrap. Slap in the face? For what? You buy a product, they produce a product. I would say its more of a slap in the face for the employees to spend time, creativity and hard work only to have death threats flung at them, wishes for them to be fired and still dissatisfaction with their products by people that think that because they bought something they own the creators. Also the "oh no someone didn't agree with me so they are infringing on my speech" dogma is a red herring. Nobody said you couldn't say anything. However that is kinda the point of an open forum. If you use hyperbolic, emotional language as an argument, then yeah someone is going to counter that. Nintendo fan forum or not. That is how a discussion works.

Like I said only fanatics need to dwell in hyperbole like this. Aaaaaand you just proved my point. Have a nice day though!

The "Nintendo super fans" are known as Nintendo fanboys , and you are implying that the problem was that you talked against Nintendo on a Nintendo driven site which had nothing to do with the original comment so yeah...

And yeah i named 2 examples because nintendo doesn't have many RPGs to choose from. Ok X but that's monolith they purchased but i named 2 classics that they let die. I understand what's his name would rather make underwear and they enslaved Camelot to make Golf games. Itsa waste imo.
