Topic: ¿Why does Nintendo hate its own JRPGs like Golden Sun and Mother?

Why's everyone giving @Samus7Killer such a hard time. Yes, "hate" may be an exaggeration, but nobody thinks that Nintendo actually hates something they've created, except for Donkey Kong Jr. Math (I jest, I jest).

Point being, this is just an opinion and should be viewed as such. It just shows care for the things you enjoy and the reason any of us ever get on these forums. We love these games!

well it's expected that later this year or early next year NIntendo is going to introduce a streaming service, if games like the Golden Sun and Mother get played a lot - they'll see it and most likely act on it.

I still suspect that we may (key word) get Mother 3 in the west at some point (I believe someone even offered to translate it for free, but Nintendo turned them down) since the game already exists. I recall reading that Itoi isn't interested in making Mother 4, so anything past 3 is up in limbo.

Golden Sun....Well, we'll have to see on that one since the most recent game apparently didn't do so well.

@Haru17: I know I'll waste countless hours just questing and exploring. Why do you think normal RPGs take me so long?

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

@Gorbash333 They might hate DK Jr. Math, but I wish they'd hate Urban Champion a little more

Golden Sun was a great early GBA game. It looked great, wandering around and manipulating the world was a step above almost all 16-bit RPGs and the mechanics of battles were very well done. But it had a puddle deep story, a generic world and everyone talked too much. And it ended on a cliffhanger.

It's not surprising that the sequel sold less. It had the same flaws, was following on from a cliffhanger, didn't clearly identify itself as a sequel (that's what the number '2' is for Nintendo!) and came at at time when there were plenty of other graphically impressive games out on the GBA and plenty of equally good or better JRPGs.

The 3rd was, by all accounts, a divisive game. Maybe Camelot decided after that that they'd rather focus all of their efforts on their much more profitable sports games going forwards?

Maybe we'll see another one day but I don't think there's actually a big audience clamouring for one.

Mother 3 is a different situation. It's a great game that didn't release in the West due to bad timing (and it would have sunk like a stone if it had released!). Of course it's not seen an official virtual console release because it's not been officially translated.

Nintendo knows there is a very dedicated audience that really wants that game and we'll get it.
Eventually. It's fan service they'll undertake when they know it's an underwhelming year.

Even ignoring how many games this describes, I've not heard much complaints about Golden Sun's story. It wasn't deep but it wasn't trying to be? It was just trying to be good? And no one expected something mind blowing from a basically launch title's story on GBA.

I do not of the GBA JRPGs that came out between Golden Sun 1 and 2. FFTA, Mario and Luigi and Fire Emblem were all later that year, and the Final Fantasy remakes were later than that. Maybe because I missed out on Atlus' games.

It was Nintendo mistake. Golden Sun 3 wasn't good enough.
1 and 2 were masterpieces @Pigeon
