Ok so I’m sure theirs a lot of questions on this but I can’t find anything super helpful within the last half an hour, so I’m gonna ask it anyways. So I’m considering getting a Nintendo switch, this will be my first Nintendo system I’ve ever purchased. I saw they released a second version of it with a better battery, my main question is is joycon drift a huge issue with most devices or is it kinda rare? I’ve tried out one and it had drift. I don’t really want to spend 300 for a good chance that it will drift in 6 months. I don’t make a whole lot so I wanna enjoy it and not have to worry about drifting and such. Like I said I know it’s probably been asked a lot but I haven’t owned a Nintendo system and I know the switch is an amazing thing except for the drifting. I’m just wondering if it’s something that would warn me from buying one and getting a ds or something. Thanks.
I'm on my third set of joy-con in less than 28 months. But you have to consider that I play my Switch about ten hours a week. If you're worried, opt for the standard Switch rather than the Switch Lite. It's easier to swap a drifting joy-con with a properly working one rather than having an entire console serviced.

um, I guess you could ultimately just use joy cons as well as a pro controller and switch back and forth. should help a lot that's what I do. so save up until you can get a pro controller at the same time

I’m looking at the v2 of the switch. I don’t have the money for several joycons and don’t really want to send the controllers away for more than a week. I don’t wanna spend 300 to possibly and or most likely have them go bad.
@ShadowHunter547 Just don't get one, you sound too much of a worrier. What if you lost it? What if it got stolen? What if it tried too eat you in your sleep?
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Well first of all, fudge you. I’m asking a simple question not meaning to grind your fanboy gears. Not all of us are rich enough to afford several pairs of joycons at once. Way to help people instead of being an ass. Warm welcome to the community I see...
Do you really want to use motion controls @ShadowHunter547. I ask because i hate motion controls. I never and i mean never use them. I've had a switch since launch(2017) and own over 200+ games and none of them make you use motion controls. So if your like me you don't have to worry about drift because no AAA game that i can think of requires motion control(they are an option in some games, but not required).

The very existence of this thread demonstrates that you're worried about it. You said you don't want to worry about it. The logical conclusion therefore is not to get one because you definitely will not have any worry about it then.

@ShadowHunter547 I have drift on two pairs of joycons. It’s a real thing. However, you don’t need to buy multiple sets - I simply recommend you get some electrical contacts cleaner. It costs only a couple of quid (or the currency of your choice), and a few squirts will generally make your joycons recover - at least for a while. And then you just spray them again. It’s much cheaper than getting an extra set of joycons!
My joycons used to work perfectly. Then they really didn’t. Now I just give them a spray every few weeks, and they’re mostly fine.
@ShadowHunter547 There is something called Warranty and Extended Warranty that you buy extra. That can fix that problem at no cost or be sent to Nintendo to replace for free. As to the v2 the box is completely Red with either the gray or colored versions. So look for that. And for microsd storage get at least 400gb that is cheap nowdays. I swapped out my first for the second and got 2 year warranty from my local GS others will vary but you have 1 year warranty. And this about the one you tested where was that at? You said test but the next following that you never bought one doesn't. For it to have drift means overplay or in some cases routed out was User Abused caused.
@CurryPowderKeg79 but what about on the device? That’s kinda the point of the joy cons. Yeah I could get a pro controller and be fine, I might as well get an Xbox then.
I really don’t care, if you don’t have something helpful don’t post. I asked a simple question and you have to come in and make fun of me for being concerned about my investment breaking.
Yes but dealing with warranty people and the paperwork is a drag and having it sent away for a week or two every few months isn’t fun. Why would I pay to have them not really fix it in the first place. I tested one out at a friends place who has had one for over a year. It gets constant use almost daily.
Go ahead. It’s my first time on the forum. Maybe be helpful and let me know that’s how it works and not a multi post forum like literally every other forum place.

Okay let's calm down here. @gcunit surely you can see why this user is concerned at the possibility of a $300 product breaking within months of purchase. @ShadowHunter547 Clearly there are only a few solutions though. 1) Like gcunit said, don't buy one yet, or better, buy one when you can afford a Pro Controller. 2) Buy a Switch and accept the risk of drift.
I have had Joy Con since launch and only recently is one slightly beginning to drift and even then games are still playable.
