Imo this is a must have piece of kit for switch players. I bought it day one and in person it’s easy to show people how great it is but it can be difficult to show this on videos online. I found this review of it which is probably the best video I’ve seen so far which shows what it can do but still not as good as in person.

£90 for something that would get used much less than 50% of my gaming time and is difficult to evidence what difference it makes tells me exactly why its not more mainstream.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I bought mClassic a few years ago when I had a bit more money spare. I did see some marginal improvement in quality, but even then I was a bit unsure whether it was worth the money. A couple of years later I got rid of it and tbh I didn't really notice the difference / I've not missed it.

It's a neat piece of tech but definitely one for enthusiasts / one I'd like to see further improvements on. Definitely not something I'd recommend to 99% of Switch gamers.

Did you have it on the right setting? The green mode, rather than the blue one.

I have one and a newer TV but honestly after having a switch for 6 years without the m classic I can’t really tell the difference enough to say that it is must have kit. Honestly most people aren’t going to care especially not at the m classic’s price. Especially any users that play handheld mode with no complaints.

Upscaling images that are already being rendered at adaptative resolution(s)? Hard pass.

I suppose it does a good enough job of deceiving people into thinking that they're viewing a sharper, more vibrant image, but you can set all that up on your TV anyway, so the above video is being disingenuous at best and blatantly dishonest at worst.

It also smudges out fine detail that may otherwise appear "jagged" owing to the adaptive resolution (and mileage will vary on a game-by-game basis). When we first got our new TV, it had noise reduction and a bunch of other fiilters set by default, which was driving me up the wall as nothing looked right (be it broadcast or my Blu-rays), and there were strange motion artefacts appearing where they shouldn't (needless to say that I turned everything off upon discovering the culprit), and I would expect to see other unintended artefacts arise when using an upscaling device such as this.

I'll stick to viewing the image as it is natively rendered by the hardware, with any post-processing filters on the TV turned off when placing in docked mode.

And the audacity of the YouTuber to say that upscaled 720p footage looks better than the Switch's 1080p output with a straight face. My eyes ain't what they used to be, but I'm not bloody blind either. What a fool.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

It's hard to say if the guy in the video blatantly lies or he has no clue about what he is doing. The RGB range of his recordings are totally wrong. And he is wondering why the loading screen of MK8 is overblown, or the PS3 games are too dark...
