My wife and I have just bought a switch and Fifa 18 and want to know how we can play it with split joycon controllers but have the display on the TV rather than the pad.
I have tried all settings but cannot get this to work.
Any simple instructions would be gratefully received.
@Gentlemanmike it's definitely possible, I've just done it:
Quickest way is to just do it in-game on the controller select screen (the one shown in my tweet). When you're on that screen, just press Y to change grip, then press the SL & SR buttons on each controller.
Or you can just do as Justifier suggested above.
1. Detach joy cons
2. Dock Switch
3. On Switch Home screen, go to Controllers
4. Select 'Change grip/order'
5. Press the SL & SR buttons on each joy con at the appropriate time until the horizontal grip is assigned to each.
6. Launch FIFA 18.
7. Beat her convincingly, over and over again
8. Then play FIFA. If you beat her enough at 7 then she should struggle to hold the teensie controller well enough, hopefully allowing you to scrape a 1-0 victory.
If you can't get it to work it might be because one of your controllers is broken. One of my joy cons had a broken ribbon cable inside it, causing the SL & SR buttons (and the lights on the rail) not to work. If that's the case, you can DIY fix it, just need to order the right part on ebay and follow a Youtube video. Fiddly but straightforward, I found.
