I know we've probably got about 6 months until Next Gen starts but as of now what have been the highlights and lowlights in your opinion of the current Gen.
Best Game you've played this Gen - Yakuza Kiwami
Worst Game you've played this Gen - Life is Strange 2
Game that surprised you the most - Detroit
Most Disappointing Game - Mortal Kombat 11
Hidden Gem - Crawl
Best indie Game - Hellblade/What Remains of Edith Finch
Too soon? I fully expect Cyberpunk to be one of the best games of this past generation. As it is now, I’d give The Witcher 3 the prize for the PlayBox twins, but Breath of the Wild edges it overall.
Best game I’ve played this gen: Breath of the Wild
Worst game I’ve played: Let’s Go Pikachu - it’s not even that bad, but I don’t gamble much with games I buy, so a six or seven out of ten makes it one of the worst games I’ve played this gen
Most surprising: Breath of the Wild - a complete reinvention of a series carrying almost more weight of expectation than any other
Most disappointing game: pass (I read reviews, so expectations are always tempered)
Hidden gem: Baba Is You or Toki Tori 2+
Indie great: Hollow Knight
Best Game: The Witcher III
Favorite Game: Warframe (3k+ hours played pre-PoE update)
Biggest Surprise: Doom 2016 (few folks thought it would be good)
Biggest Disappointment: Zelda: Breath of the Wild (weapon degradation killed my enthusiasm)
Hidden Gem: Watch Dogs 2 (everyone dismissed the sequel after the Watch Dogs 1 downgrade scandal)
Indie Great: Axiom Verge
Switch Physical Collection - 1,252 games (as of April 30th, 2024)
Favorite Quote: "Childhood is not from birth to a certain age and at a certain age the child is grown, and puts away childish things. Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies." -Edna St. Vincent Millay
Best Big Console releases: Breath of the Wild, Witcher III, and Bloodborne
Worst AAA console releases (that I played): Fallout 76 and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5
Biggest AAA surprises: How awesome and pitch perfect the revamped Wolfenstein games are, Resident Evil 7
Biggest disappointments: Metal Gear Solid 5 (impressive presentation but gameplay becomes repetitive and tiring) and GTA 5 (lack of series innovation and focus on online cashgrabbing, R* regression)
Little Gems: Until Dawn, Thimbleweed Park, and Into the Breach
Best Indie releases: Stardew Valley, Return of the Obra Dinn, and Rain World
Best Game you've played this Gen - Mario Maker 2
Worst Game you've played this Gen - Final Fantasy XV
Game that surprised you the most - Fire Emblem Three Houses
Most Disappointing Game - Luigi's Mansion 3
Hidden Gem - Graceful Explosion Machine
Best indie Game - Stardew Valley
Best Game I've Played this Gen: God of War (PS4).
Worst Game I've Played this Gen: Atelier Lydie & Suelle (Switch)
Game that Suprised me the Most: Tetris Effect (PSVR)
Most Disappointing Game: Kingdom Hearts VR Experience (PSVR)
Hidden Gem: Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders (Switch)
Best VR Game: Astro Bot: Rescue Mission (PSVR)
Best Indie Game: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Switch)
Best game is a real toss up though. Breath of the Wild (Switch), Super Mario Odyssey (Switch), Spider-Man (PS4), Xenoblade Chronicles 2 w/ Torna (Switch), Astral Chain (Switch), and Titanfall 2 (PS4) could all make that top spot for me.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
