Yeah none of Nintendo's online services for retro games have been very satisfying. It's always a slow drip of two maybe three games at a time. Rediculous.

As for Ninja Gaiden none of the modern games are button mashers. You will get destroyed everytime doing it like that. You don't have to be super fast with the inputs just keep a steady pace.
You really only need to learn two moves to get you through most fights. The Izuna drop and flying swallow. If you can do these without too much trouble you'll be killing fools left and right! Oh and make sure you block at all times! It took me alot of deaths and get the moves down but I'm pretty okay now.
I still get careless and mess up occasionally. Especially on bosses.

I think i was blocked in some place with 2 gargoyles looking enemies. I couldnt pass them and quit. I guess i should give it another chance.

Two gargoyles huh? That's sounds like a boss fight in dark souls. Well either way it's kind of an equally frustrating game. They aren't for everyone but if you practice enough it's pretty rewarding when you start feeling like a true Ninja master!

I just watched a walkthrough and it wasnt even a boss. They're towards the end of day 4 and they call it zombie gorgons, these big things that grab you and throw you onto the floor. They would grab me while im fighting the other enemy and kill me in no time.

I mean i knew a few combos but from what i remember the input needed to be really fast for the combos to work so i never really went deep into it. I'll try to boot my Wii U one of these days. But i need to finish a few games on Switch first. I have too many games for the gaming time i have.

Huh. So there has been news about this game about resolution and frame rate for other platforms. Switch was not mentioned (typical), but I ended up going to the Japanese website and saw something regarding "Ninja Gaiden: Master Colleciton Version D", which according to the website, is exclusive to the eShop on Switch, and no other platforms. The regular version will also be available on eShop (physical in Japan as well, can't comment on if physical will be available in Europe and US), but this "Version D" seems to be exclusive.

Eventually, I saw this little nugget at the bottom of the page. Rough google translate but:

"NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection Version D" is a mild version of the cruel scene of "NINJA GAIDEN 3: Razor's Edge" recorded in "NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection". There is no change in the expressions (cruel scenes) of the other recorded works "NINJA GAIDEN Σ" and "NINJA GAIDEN Σ2"."

The only thing I can think of is a cutscene at the beginning of Ninja Gaiden 3 that wasn't present in Razor's Edge will also not be available in "Version D". But that is a really minor change if anything, and also, why Switch only?

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?

That's strange. I have the Wii U version of Razor's edge and as far as i could tell nothing was toned down or censored. There was blood spraying everywhere and enemies constantly dropping F bombs as you sliced them to bits. I never played the original version before so i can't comment but i heard it was a disaster on the initial release. I thought razor's edge was pretty good!

@Zeldafan79 The scene I am referring to is:

In the very first level, before you see the giant machine/tank boss, in the original game, Ryu Hayabusa sees a solider who surrenders after seeing him kill everyone else. Ryu slowly walks towards him, and as you get closer, the soldier says he has a family and begs for his life. Eventually, you stand in front of him, and will stay there until you kill him, at which point the soldier says "You're not human..." as he dies. You then slide under the truck and see the machine and the level goes on as normal.

I think there are other cutscene changes too, but that is the one I find easy to remember.

I think i remember hearing about that. The scene made people kinda mad because they felt it was out of character for Ryu. I was pretty sure that's only in the original release of Ninja gaiden 3. I know that never happens on razor's edge.

@Zeldafan79 To be fair, I don't think Ryu was ever really betrayed as blood thirsty prior to that. Sure, he has killed plenty, but normally, they're people who are trying to kill him or are endangering someone else, not just some random person who was defenceless. So that would make sense. But still, if that is what the difference is between regular and "Version D", then why is "Version D" only available on Switch?

That is strange. Seems likey would make all versions mostly identical.

That stinks. I'll still grab it though. Considering it's digital only, and releasing so close to mario golf and skyward sword, I'll have no problem waiting for a sale.

@Slowdive
LOL why would they base it on the vita version? Didn't the Vita flop? I certainly didn't know anyone who owned it.

Well well, apparently there will be no physical releases in Western territories according to Koei Tecmo. Whatever happened to having a choice these days?

I've not played these games, and I have the option of purchasing the collection as an import for a reasonable price. I believe you've said that you consider the games decent, but I am wondering what to expect, given that I've not touched this series since the NES. How would you rate the value of these? I understand the third game, in particular, was not well-received.

@Slowdive Why is that "ninja" using an automatic weapon!?!?!

EDIT: I see that I forgot to thank you for your earlier detailed reply. Belated thanks, O Punisher!
