Topic: Recovering Switch Save Data Later

My nephew’s switch is nearly broken, so we'd like to transfer his data over to my switch (after resetting it.)

However, I'd like to save my save data so I could transfer it over to a new switch sometime in the near future. Would this be possible? What about Animal Crossing save data? I have an online subscription. Thank you for your help!

Some clarification: If I reset my switch with "initialize console" does the save data delete, even when you have the online subscription? I need to factory reset my switch to give it to someone else, but would like to upload my save data and account to a new switch in the future. Thank you!

@pebblecollector Transfers are done one switch user profile at a time. You can just add your nephew's Switch users save data to your console. (and you can make your nephew's user the primary user, if wanted. Nintendo support has directions.) If you reset & wipe your console of your save data, then you won't have your data for a transfer later. Forgive me if I've misunderstood what your trying to do. There are at least a couple ways to interpret your explanation of what you want to do.

@pebblecollector As stated before, you can just send over all the profile. Take in mind a couple of things:
1- some games, like pokemon, don't have could save. They get sent normally when you transfer profile.
2- AC has its own way to transfer the save and believe for own experience, if you don't use the proper program, you can't transfer the island.

It’s also worth mentioning that multiple animal crossing islands can’t exist in the same switch. In case both of you have a personal island, that will be the only case where it has to one or the other.

@WoomyNNYes I see, that makes sense. I think the main problem right now is that there are animal crossing islands on both switches. There is no way to swap them from one to another is there?

@pebblecollector I only have a rough understanding, but I believe the Switch system will only allow one island on a console. And swapping islands on between two consoles would require that one console have two islands for part of the transfer process, which the system won't allow. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

@pebblecollector ......unless you have a third switch to work with that doesn't have ACNH on it? I'm thinking out loud here. I don't know know if this idea has other caveats.

If the broken switch still works well enough for it to be able to transfer save files now, perhaps just leave the island there until a replacement has been bought.

No need to reset yours, you can share a console until a replacement is ready.

@Eel So smart! He hasn't been playing animal crossing lately anyway, so this will work great until the third switch comes in! Thank you everyone for your help.
